I think this launch wasn't meant to be leaked already? It was supposed to appear at Goodwood FoS as far as I know?
Fussy styling, I'm thinking the Weissach package is responsible for most of that contrasting carbon? I love the wheels, they're the same wheels Manthey has been offering as an upgrade for the 991 GT3 RS.

Yes, I think BBS Magnesium (I think they cost $10k each). The smaller set of 4 (for the GT3 and 911R) weighs 32 pounds (14.5 kg) less than the stock wheels, but they are fragile:

These larger ones for RS probably save even more weight...

How much can really be done with the styling after 50+ years?? If the tacked on bits serve a real function then the form follows function and we leave it at that. The car is exactly what I would expect. Unorthodox venue for "launch" but does it really matter that much in the internet era?

I'd say that the launch only matters for those that participate in the launch event itself.
All we want is the nitty gritty details and where they've stored the order forms.
As someone else said: if PAG tells us more about the GT2RS the launch will be the lamest launch ever.

And when you ask your dealer they have no clue and no allocations so basically the car isn't sold out yet - we don't even know if it will be limited or not. (I've been told unlimited)

It would look sinister in black or dark grey to blend better with the carbon. Lighter colors contrast and make the car look extremely busy.
A car with styling this extreme has to back it up with performance - if it doesn't set a 'ring record, it's a disappointment in my book as that is the whole point of the GT2 RS - ultimate performance version of the 911.
Personally, I would rather have a GT3 for driving feel and linearity, plus tamer styling.
I'd be surprised if it beats the Performante, but should beat the 7 min mark. That's not slow...

It looks the part of a GT2 RS, stripes and all. Personally I would have put a matte color like guard red of something fun, silver is totally inappropriate for this car even with stripes.
That said, this car does does nothing for me as surely for many others. Porsche desperately needs a halo car without the wing and without a roof. The others do it, why not them... The LE TTS might have been but all they did was a part special, put some expensive light parts which save no weight, it still sounds bad and might not be that fun to drive at a ridiculous price. Porsche is not even competing with Lambo, Ferrari McLaren or even AM on the product offering and that's not even mentioning the exclusivity aspect.

Maybe a GT2RS Cabrio? 
To be fair, Porsche probably sells more 911's than Lambo, Ferrari and McLaren sell cars put together, so I don't think they are in the mood to market the 911 as a direct competitor to those.
The 911GT2RS was not built with the purpose to compete with them in sales, its production will be limited, it was made as a statement and halo for the 911, it will compete with them in terms of performance.
I think the design fits it very well, while not my cup of tea, its extreme and rough which is what the car is (I agree with the silver not being the right color though). They could have done something with the side intakes like Grant said though, a little effort to make them different and more radical in design IMO would of taken it it of the park.
Another matter is if they go into the high-end mid-engined market with the 960 but no sense with the 911 which is the most successful in sportscar history and selling more with each generation.
