Us Europeans don't go for Ponzi schemes that Ferrari is running in the US, so cars here are usually sold at MSRP .

That's why I'm into nice boats . In the US, you can get the coolest boats and still expect a big discount off MSRP.

In the crazy US market , you can buy a year old used C6 Z06 for about the price of a bare bones, no options Boxster S . If you want a 599 TODAY ( i.e., not on the MSRP wait list ) , expect to pay about 7- 8 times that price . The difference puts a used Carrera GT in your garage also !

I think, in that environment I would go for the BoxsterS and a Carrera GT

That would get me over the long wait for a 599GTB...

BTW: How long is the expected wait for a 599GTB at MSRP in the US

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

So again good performance from Lambo after 200 kmh typically. 599 times are insane it is better than the factory claims

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

Another German mag w/impressive accel times for 599....even beating the AWD 997TT in the 0-100kph launch...

    Any handling data included?

Unfortunately not... I look forward to the sportauto supertest of the 599GTB

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

ignoring Veyron, for handling imo the best two must be LP640 and 997 TT

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

    MKSGR,

isnt the 599 GTB 0-200 time average about 11-11.7.

    I remember a test done it @ 11.2 or 11.3

Actually, haven't heard of any guy who's a major repeat F buyer not being able to get 599 at MSRP within first 6-12mos of US launch....it's an "elitist" process based upon one's prior new F buying frequency/relationships/referrals...similar to gaining a desirable, short notice rsvn at FrenchLaundry or other desired restaurant or hotel/getting kids into a desired pvt school, etc....same, simple game....

Hard to assess cost of 599 ownership in US....guys who get 599 early@MSRP will prob drive it for 5K mis and trade-in for MSRP for another copy of new, '08 599...so for many jaded guys, their F's are far more inexpensive on a cash basis than any steeply depreciating 65/997TT that they also own in their multi-car fleets....

Also, in unusual case where a guy is new to major money and has no influential business pals to "introduce" him to FNA/local F dealer, he can simply buy a new 599 at mkt (some $150K premium to MSRP), drive it for 5K mis in a yr and prob sell it for some $50-75K deprec cost...not much different than one-yr deprec on a new 65/loaded 997TT.....

Would argue today's new car prices are awfully cheap, esp given the lack of car price inflation over past 10-15 yrs, the dramatic deprec of dollar vs Euro over past 2-3 yrs and the incredibly cheap-money $0 down leases of US.....and then consider what were N-ring times and daily-usability of lighter, more focused cars from 5-10 yrs ago.....

That is correct. 11.1, 11.2 and 10.3 (twice) are the figures available to date. Thus the average is around 11.

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

wow! great numbers on the lp 640and 599... veyron apart of course...

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

0 to 300kph in under 30 seconds is amazing.

Other than the Veyron, what other unmodified production street car can do that?

The 599GTB sets a new benchmark for accelleration in a useable car that doesnt look ridiculous.

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

what about the CCX? or The Zonda F?

i wonder what their 0-300kph times are

These are not quite production street cars...

Of course, there are quicker cars! The Enzo did 0-300 in 26s, for example. And CCX and Zonda F should also be quicker than 30s.

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

26 seconds for the enzo? wow! are u sure about that?

Yes, AMS published this figure in one of the high-speed tests of the last years

    Also, 10.4, according to Quattroroute.

And yes, if I were a car maker, VKSF would be getting flowers and candy from me every February 14th .

It has been stated that the 599GTB may well be the fastest production vehicle from 0 to 300 km/h. And that also excluded the Veyron from the start, as well as the Zondas and CCXs, which may or may not be faster.

I was just throwing those cars into the comparison since JimFlat6 wondered if there were any other unmodified production cars that could get similar times

Even the 599 could hardly be called a "production" car with so few of them being made, but with over 1000 cars/annum (even more than that I believe) being built, it is truly a production vehicle, compared to the much rarer Zondas or the CCX (the sole vehicle ).

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

Wow! The 599 is fast. It seems to get faster with each test. Too bad they didn't do a top speed test.

They actually did Just look at the table again (last line with red background color)...

The text explains that the top-speeds shown are the outcome of the test (and no manufacturers claims).

    1. I've been told tonight by one of our sources that there has been a typo and that the SLR numbers have been mixed up with the 599 numbers, with the exception of the top speed.
Since this hasn't been confirmed yet by AMS, we should wait until we know for sure.

    2. Ferrari accompanied the 599 with a factory maintentance team to this test...sounds a little bit odd to me.

Nethertheless, the test results of the tested cars are pretty impressive, maybe with the exception of the Aston Martin Vantage which in my opinion disappointed.

The 997 Turbo performed like I expected...close to 40 seconds, pretty good compared to the old 996 Turbo.
Add 70 horses to the 997 Turbo and you'll end up with a 0-300 kph time close to 30 seconds.

Not so odd ..... the Ferrari company is in a very good position to be able to assess the reliability and durability of its own products.

Re: SUPERCAR TEST Auto Motor Sport

Fritz, they may have been there to add more dry ice to the
secret fuel line cooler. Cooler fuel-better burn-more speed.

They're more likely to be there to add ice to the timing crew's Camparis.

If the car needs a fuel-line cooler they should run it alongside the "cold" side of the AC system like other car manufacturers do, eliminating the need for desperate measures like dry ice.

If the typo were in the chart only, I would find it possible. But they directly wrote in the text that the 599 Fiorano hits 100kph in just 3,5s which is two tenths of a second better than the factory claim and is really sensational for a front-engined RWD car...

BTW, RC, what do you think of Heidl tuning ?
