    997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

Latest AMS shows the tt trails the Z06 to 200 and 250kph but then leads it to 300kph. Link to scan of article here

This just proves that the cars are in the same league. Quality differences aside, one would choose the car which would most suit his driving style and needs.

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

strange numbers... is the ford GT so much faster than turbo and z06? look 0 to 300 km/h.. i know hes faster.. but not that faster...

It is important to note that the GT was NOT a Ford car but car provided by a GT owner. The guy actually owns two. The first had to be replaced by the second when the power train of the first GT broke down during the AMS test...

Yes, there are also other, tougher performance measurements than 0-60 and the 1/4 mile .

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

wow..the ferrari 599 is a seriously quick car throughout the speed range. i think the tt does well relative to it's price and performance in contrast with seriously more expensive cars. as to the z06 it's a toss up. obviously the z06 is a tremendous value....i'm just not a corvette person.

Remember the Ford GT has 70hp more than the 911 Turbo, at high speed hp is king at the top end.

The Ferrari 599 values are a TYPO. AMS took the Mercedes SLR numbers for the 599 and vice versa.

I think that the 0-300 kph performance of the 997 Turbo is pretty impressive. As far as I remember, the old 996 Turbo did 0-300 kph in 60 seconds or so, this means that the 997 Turbo is almost 20 seconds faster.

Furthermore, the 997 Turbo is only 4 seconds behind the 620 HP Enzo engine powered 599. Not bad in my opinion.
The top speed of the 997 Turbo actually shows where the fabulous 0-100, 0-200 and 0-300 kph performance is coming from...speaking of shorter gear ratio.
According to my sources, a 550 HP tuned 997 Turbo (manual) did 0-300 kph in slightly above 30 seconds. Wow.

The most impressive car in this test is actually the Bugatti Veyron. 0-300 kph in 18.2 seconds, this is one second faster than the Cayman S needs from 0-200 kph.
Or more than 22 seconds faster than the 997 Turbo...WOW again.

Whoever owns a Bugatti Veyron needs three things:
    1. a healthy bank account
    2. a calm temper
    3. a good guardian angel

Who told you this? The numbers are correct (if your statement was correct, my test car with just 100kms on the odometer would have been much faster than the AMS test car)...

I am 100% sure that the 599 numbers are indeed 599 numbers (and not SLR numbers)

P.S.: The text also refers to some test results of the 599, also the 0-250 and 0-200 numbers are nearly identical to those published by Quattroruoute ealier this year, i.e. definitively no typo

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

A little birdie told me...only the Vmax is correct.
Of course nothing is 100% in life, so my info may be incorrect but then...the 10.3 seconds would be a little bit surprising...this is Carrera GT territory.
As much as I do believe in wonders...the 599 still weights 1750 kg or so (real weight, not Ferrari claimed weight).

Btw: Ferrari accompanied the 599 with a factory maintentance team for this comparison...a little bit odd in my opinion. In the last AMS, the 599 did 0-200 kph in 11.2 seconds, which is more likely to be close to the truth.

Ferrari always seems to achieve fantastic performance figures in reviews but surprisingly, every time I meet a Ferrari F430 on the street, either my car is running pretty well or...

We can do a comparison next year if you decide to go for the 599. It will be pretty interesting since I may have access to a tuned 997 Turbo with 550 HP or so.

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

RC, which company offers/will offer the 550hp kit you're mentioning ?

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

I have heard that 550hp can be achieved with just an ECU.

You can tell your birdy that it is wrong (this time...) . I can verify a result close to 30s based on my own test drive...

The 599 is about 10 seconds faster to 300 than all the 500hp cars (997TT, Z06, Gallardo, F430). Also, the LP640 has a very similar acceleration as the 599GTB which is no wonder as it has nearly the same engine output.

The AMS results does make perfect sense to me (of course 1 or 2 seconds more or less are always possible, depending on the test conditions - however, the 30s range can be veryfied by three independant sources by now)

I'm sure RC's birdie is still under the influence from Oktoberfest. Such a small birdie and so much beer . But seriously, while the 599 figures, which RC mentions belong to the SLR, are actually just right for the SLR (even the top speed), it would seem odd to me for the SLR to only do 324 km/h (10 less than the last test) or the heavy AWD Murcielago to be 4 seconds faster than the 599.

Want to hear my theory? The 599's numbers belong to the SLR, the SLR's numbers belong to the LP640 and the Murc's numbers belong to the 599. Ergo, case closed .

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

I just went to compare some of my times off of my Passport GT2 timer. My 0-60 runs go from 3.3-3.6 and my 0-120 are from 10.25-10.4. That's a seriously slow Z06 or they don't know how to drive it.

What is seriously amazing is the Bugatti does 0-300 in less than half of the time of the Z06 and TT.

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

Look at the guy in the picture holding the hood of the 559. Talk about a guilty face. Also, why are the toying with the engine?

355, I don't have much faith in those G-tech thingies. AMS did the test right (look at the Z06, beats the Turbo by about 2 seconds from 100 to 250 km/h). It just lacks top-end, I guess (if you can call 41 seconds to 300 km/h "lacking" ).

Yeah I was skeptical as well at first. That is until I made about 10 passes down the quarter mile and my timer was within .05 seconds and 1/2 mph of the official NHRA track timer.

Remember, just because the 997 TT reaches 300 KPH (180 MPH) 1.1 seconds quicker than the Z06, does not mean it would be ahead in a race. Ever see a top fuel car blow its engine at 100 MPH, and it still does the quarter in 8 ticks? Same concept. The Z06 looks like it would build a decent lead to 250 KPH (150 MPH), of which I doubt the 997 TT could gain back to 300 KPH (180 MPH). Time to speed is not too useful IMO. Time to distance is where it's at... Do a flat out 1 or 2 mile race. And the Z06 has a higher top end. So what would likely happen is the Z06 would build a lead in the beginning. The Porsche would start to catch up and possibly pass and then fall behind again. Unlike the LP 640 that would fall a little behind and then pull ahead never to look back.

I'm going to try and go to the Texas Mile race this weekend. 1 mile dragstrip. I can get some official times to post. Sound like fun.

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

Yes, I agree that perhaps a 1,5-mile time would be more useful to compare the cars. I'd say it very much depends on what kind of driving you do. Tight curves would depend heavily on the driver, 100-160 mph range would favor the Z06 and anything above that would favor the Turbo. Safe to say that the Z06 is better suited to your kind of driving (rarely over 150 mph, unless on a race track), while the Turbo goes well with the Autobahn philosophy.

    Re: 997tt faster to 300kph than Z06

Cruising at speeds over 160mph on public roadways is pretty insane. You guys across the pond must let'em hang pretty low.
