KresoF1:"What car is easier to drive on the limit? GTS. What car is more confidence inspiring for fast track driving? GTS.
GT3 is more handfull and if you really know how to drive more rewarding. New GT3 is actually more demanding then 991.1 version."
New GT3 has some "nervousness" built in. Some will claim it makes the car more "alive" and offers way more "feel".
All this is really interesting since Corsa N0 (GTS) is not as extreme as Cup N1 (GT3) ans that (as well as track temperature etc) should be put into the equation as well.
CG also explains the conditions under which the GT3 is more "nervous":
(i) breaking into corners
(ii) throttle changes in the corner
(iii) too much steering input in corners
It is interesting that he even mentions (i) and (ii). Who drives a 911 on track using this kind of driving style For decades, these two tricks have been in used the 911 to let the rear snap in a corner...
Porsche had to step up their game with the Carrera otherwise any good M BMW , Audi RS , or AMG would become faster . By changing to the turbo engine it opened a huge performance gain . And now with the new tires + electronics a GT became as fast as a dedicated sports car .
There is not much air left in track performance for '' classic sports cars '' like the GT3 .
All will be in the driving feel . A GTS might be nearly as fast, but it has not the same feeling and atmosphere at all .
Making the car more ' nervous ' is a good thing . It will keep the philosophy of this car alive . The danger was that the GT3/RS become way to civilized . Since I changed the alignment on my RS , the car has also become more ' nervous ' and ' alive ' . I like it very much . ( I stil have to test it on the track )
As to manual / PDK . I still think that on track , manual, makes you loose some of the purpose of this car . Unless you are a semi-pro pilot , you will have already so much '' work'' to try to take the car to it's limits using PDK . With manual it will be even harder to try to get to what the car can do on track . Maybe only after a few seasons driving the same car with PDK on track one could then be ready to take the manual to the same level .
On open roads, it is a completely deferent story . Manual will make the car more ' lively ' as with PDK and speed limits it can tend to get boring . There is something that does feel ' strange' when driving modern cars with an older gear box .....

Very nice comparison between GT3 and turbo s (driven by Walter Röhrl himself...).

The turbo s on standard tires is approx. 0.7s quicker... Now we just need the time with the new Corsa tires (that can be ordered for the turbo at the dealer now)

0.7 is a timing difference you cannot create by hand stopping... Could also be an even bigger advantage for the turbo s than 0.7s... And with the Corsa tires the delta would have been significantly more than 1s

Walter Röhrl can, he did so in the video
He also says, that after 3-4 laps the turbo reduces power while the GT3 will keep on doing the same lap times. Both also agree that they had more fun driving the GT3 on track (no surprise really), even though it is slower ...for the first couple of laps . You also have the impression that you are going faster in the GT3, due to the sound and the "race feeling".

Eric,
any downside to your new alignment? what did you change to and do you know yet whether similar changes are needed in the new GT3?
As for the manual, Porsche lost forever one manual customer with the GT4 gear ratios, even though Grant maintains the Gt3 will have a better lower set, I won't take that chance

The ratios are fundamentally dictated by the number of gears, the top speed, and the redline. The GT3 more or less shares the first two attributes with the GT4, but the much higher redline of the GT3 is the reason for the better ratios in the GT3 (and the GT3's greater torque means it pulls those better ratios much better). The GT3 even makes pretty good torque from 2,500 rpm (hugely more than even current RS with same displacement)...

I have not driven it enough for the moment to say . Only did about 30 km with it . Next week I will about 1500 km in 3 days, so I'll be able to say more . Road and track .
The downside , if any , for the moment is my ground clearance . Even with the lift up I touch the from lip in some places . The car need also me to be more concentrated / attentive as the steering is more ' nervous ' and reacts to any slight touch . One of the problem could be tire wear on the inside . Will see that next week .
I am sure their will be some custom alignments for the GT3.2 . There always is . Just wait a bit for people to try them out and find a good one , before using your car a a guinea pig

Watt, according to the recent bulletin, no US cars will be shipped until middle of September. They may not have updated your PVMS to reflect the delay OR Porsche likes you so much they are making an exemption for your car.

I like it, N. But is it timeless ?....
Sounds lovely though the GR. Some people say not for a GT3, but its such a nice rich classy colour and still cool at the same time. ..

Porsche has used GR for the presentation and as launch colour for their 997.2 and 991.2 GT3, so it can't be that wrong on a GT3.
