    Window glass - Is it coated or treated?

    I've searched around but can not seem to find the original thread on this. I read, some where, that the glass on our 997s from the factory comes coated with some type of "rain-x" type product. In that same thread I believe it was stated that the OEM replacement glass that is available in the US, although OEM, is not coated like it comes from the factory.

    Please set me straight. Is this TRUE or FALSE? If true, can you point me to some Porsche document or literature or shop manual page, or something, that states this?

    I am in a position to have the drivers side window replaced at my dealer because the tint company they subletted it to scratched the window under the tint. If I can arm myself with information about the coating situation I may be able to persuade them to get the glass from Germany rather then the local OEM distribution chain.

    From the Product Information Guide:

    The 911Carrera offers a special new feature in the area of glazing: it is now
    fitted with hydrophobic side windows (front). These windows are much less
    susceptible to soiling than conventional windows.
    This substantially improves the transparency of the windows and therefore the overall view in the rain and in winter weather conditions (when de-icing salt may be used).

    From the owners manual (under windows):

    Door windows feature a water-repellent (hydro-phobic) coating which prevents soiling of the windows.
    This coating is subject to natural wear and can be renewed.
    Consult an authorized Porsche dealer.

    Somthing similar to RainX I would think

    I don't know what the special covering is, but I had to get my windshield replaced as my original one got hit by a rock, cracking it. I have a 2006 911S. My windshield is OEM, and it states on the drivers side, lower portion, that it is made in Belgium by Saint-Gobain, so my windshield probably has the coating.
