    AWE vs. Fabspeed exhaust

Does anyone have experience with these brands or an idea of which one is better? Which offers better power, sound? Thanks.

    Re: AWE vs. Fabspeed exhaust

The guy from sharkwerks in Cali swears by AWE's sound.

    Re: AWE vs. Fabspeed exhaust

Joe at fabspeed sells top notch stuff, remember his stuff won that 996TT shootout a couple of years back. His prices are reasonable too, heard nothing +/- about awe.

    Re: AWE vs. Fabspeed exhaust

The new AWE exhaust looks to be a modular unit like the Fabspeed. It looks to be a quality exhaust like the Fabspeed. But since I've had good experience with Joe before, during and after the sale I'll get the Fabspeed again.

Can't say much about those since they're not available in Europe (at least not under their brand name) but a little hint regarding a "good quality" exhaust for the 997 Turbo: it needs to cost in the 3500 USD range, otherwise it is crap. The cost of a "good" sport exhaust in Germany is around 4000 Euro, incl. 200 cell catalytic converters.
The quality is essential since the VTG charger technology produces a lot of heat.

I know that the price tag alone isn't always an indication for good quality but it is impossible that somebody can offer a high quality system below 3000 USD.

    Re: AWE vs. Fabspeed exhaust

Thanks for all of your replies. RC, both the Fabspeed and AWE exhaust sell for roughly $3700 so they are probably of similar quality construction. It sounds like fabspeed is the prefered exhaust.

Trip, they are definitely fine for your market, but in Germany most of the tuning packages (the higher-end ones) would cause the engine to fail after prolonged WOT or near-WOT driving - either that, or the exhaust would set the car on fire .

    Re: AWE vs. Fabspeed exhaust

I had a good experience with AWE and the chip they provided for my 2001TT. I am guessing that the exhaust is high quality as well...

What tuning packages are you talking about?

The various GT750, GT800 and similar packages. The GT750 doesn't come with a rebuilt engine as standard and I would be willing to bet a hefty amount of money that it would detonate sooner or later in our conditions. It's perfectly fine for the US market, but not for us here.

    Re: AWE vs. Fabspeed exhaust

A well tuned engine thats running a good a/f ratio with good cooling should not detonate at prolonged high speed wot driving. I assume you are talking about autobahn driving, if so i have yet to hear of any engine that has blown up due to the factors you stated. Maybe nobody with these tuning packages has tried that sort of driving as the U.S dosnt have any roads i know of with open speed limits, and track driving is very different from autobahn driving. I wonder what tuners would suggest.

I'm not talking about 600 bhp paxckages, but about the higher-horsepower versions. There's a reason why they are scarcely offered in Europe and if they are, they cost an arm and a leg. However, again, the packages sold in the US are perfectly suited for the kind of driving you do.
