Agree, at first glance it looks alot like an R8. However, I would choose an R8 over the MB, for some reason that picture did not appeal to me. The power output sounds impressive though.

The original Gullwing is one of my all-time favorite cars. That thing looks like a mangeled R8/ MB Station wagon on steroids

The head AMG guy said in this week's Autoweek that their new 6.3 L cars are all about power, tranny and brakes and the SOUND ( meaning thumping American V8 )of the motor. Notice he doesn't mention handling.
OTOH, for the typical buyer he has targeted , it probably isn't even a consideration , since he pokes a jab at BMW by saying his high perf motors have TORQUE, TORQUE,TORQUE.AMG is the spiritual heir to Ameican 60's type go fast cars, in some ways.
Wonder if this car, if built, will finally break the MBZ image of heavy, fast cars that don't turn well .

N-ring/Hockenheim KK times of SL55 v1 (w/last-gen ABC/steering; 15 less hp/lb-ft; and no paddleshifters/latest tranny shift speeds vs '07) are fairly decent...rather similar to 997S' times....
Need to drive CL63 vs 997TT vs 599 back-to-back in hands of amateur drivers on local mtn twisties/fwys in coming mths to draw better, subjective driving "feel" conclusions
....doubt any of these cars is an either/or proposition...most buyers who enjoy latest-tech cars prob own a few copies of MB/F/P dpdg upon daily/wkend driving needs...straight-line vs twisties/wet vs dry/need for commuting speakerphone/Btooth funcs, fuel tank range, etc/safety variables....

YUP. Maybe I am being too quick to judge, but I would expect something a bit more suttle from MB. Perhaps a design that pays more of an homage to the 300SL (In my opinion, one of the prettiest cars every made), rather than just slapping gullwing doors on an engine
