Just got back from the track in my Z06

I thought I would post up some numbers from the strip tonight.I promised I would after I got my Passport GT2 timer. This is only my 2cnd trip ever so i'm not the greatest driver, but i'm not the worst either. Had a blast It was about 65 degrees out. Probably 70 on the track. My car has LG headers, a tune and a halltech air filter on stock tires. It dynoed at 22 more hp than stock. I had my new passport timer in the car on each run so I got alot of other times as well. Cool gadget. It was accurate within about .03 sec with the track timer. I pulled the QT times off my slips and the rest off the passport timer. I had to make all 3 passes within 25 minutes as I was late to the track. So no cool down in between runs and tires were all fully inflated.

info.. 60 ft 0-60 0-100 0-120 QT mph
Pass1 1.95 3.77 7.57 10.4 11.53 126.2
Pass2 1.95 3.42 7.42 10.35 11.45 126
Pass3 1.85 3.55 7.4 10.35 11.38 125.3

Hope that's some good info.It was loads of fun getting it. Some other guy up north ran an 11.10@127.94 on a stock car tonight.:w When I was there tonight an RX7(rotary powered) ran an 8.05@170.

Re: Just got back from the track in my Z06

Wow, those times are very good indeed. With some more hours behind the wheel I'd think you will be able to touch the border to 10 seconds. Very good and congrats!!

No, I think he's already driving very well to get those times. To get near 10 seconds would require a HUGE improvement - Much more power or Much more traction, not just better driving...

Thanks guys. I think it would take drag radials at the least and better driving. The guys running low 11s are running 1.7 60 fts. One guy has run a 10.9 with my near stock setup but he was on drag radials. It's amazing how hard it is to get a great launch. All wheel drive sure would help. There was an old crappy Mitsu Eclipse at the track pounding out low 10s on street tires. That all wheel drive just hooked and ran.

Re: Just got back from the track in my Z06

getting a great 60ft in a FR is no easy task...

your times are good

Hmm, you could be right....traction seems to be the biggest obstacle to reach 10 sec's. Ranger on Corvetteformum is now down to around 11,2 sec's with his bone stock Z06 on runflats. His guess is that the limit for a stock Z06 would be around 11,15. With the tunes you have you should be able to reach him after some practise. But to reach the 10 sec territory you would probably have to go for DR's. You will probably not need more power though. There are some guys over at Corvetteforum.com that have reached high 10 sec's with about the same mods as 355Spider. That's why I think it would be possible with DR's and some practise.

355Spider: At what RPM's did you launch?

The Eclipse seems like a beast. What mods did it have?

Yeah I think Ranger just ran an 11 flat @129 on DRs. He's just such a great driver. Not only is he the fastest but he's dead consistent. He can do 5 runs all within 100s of second of each other. That eclipse must have been highly modified. It took off like a rocket. It looked like a total piece of junk. Imagine meeting that on the highway. Suprise.

Re: Just got back from the track in my Z06

Congratulations F355! Sounds like you had fun. I haven't had mine to the track yet. The biggest problem is feathering the throttle so you spin as little as possible in 1st, 2nd and 3rd (according the Ranger). I can feel the difference when I do that though. I think Ranger launches at 3500rpms.
Great times though!

Thanks man. You have to get yours to the track. It's a blast. Mine just devours every other car there unless they are highly modified. If you get a good burnout you can stick pretty well in 2cnd and 3rd. 1st is the tricky part. Ranger told me to launch at 2200-2500. That works well for me. Pop the clutch quickly and feed the throttle in slowly. AT about 50mph I go full throttle. Shift hard and feed the throttle in. Don't mash hard into 2cnd or you spin too much. It's easy from there. You can power shift 3rd and 4th. Ranger launches at 3500 on DR I believe. I tried launching at 3K once and it was a terrible launch. Have fun man. Change that clutch fluid via Ranger's reccommendations. It helps alot.

Thanks man. I'm going to try and get on the show Pinks this weekend. They're going to be at the trac I was at on Saturday night. Should be fun. If anyone else is in the DFW area we could meet up. It would be nice to see some Porsches or Ferraris in the mix.

Re: Just got back from the track in my Z06

Good work, you are very humble too my friend

Never done it - I race on road courses. I think it would do pretty well though, since it has good power to weight ratio (over 240hp @ 8,000rpm and 1,890 lbs. with more than 65% of weight over the driven wheels) with very low gearing (138mph at 8,000rpm in 5th) and LSD with sticky tires...

I did an informal stoplight race once with a friend who has a 1968 Pontiac GTO (425hp) and my car left it WAY behind VERY quickly...

hmmm, 1890lb, 240hp Porsche vs 4500lbs, 425hp Pontiac & you left him behind?

didn't see that one coming

I'd still be interested in seeing some actual times from ya

Actually, those old GTO's are alot lighter than the new ones (I think around 3,400 lbs - lighter than a new C4S or Turbo).

I don't think I'll be taking any passes at the dragstrip - it doesn't really light my fire and it's hard on the car (rebuilding a 915 gearbox is very pricey when done right, my clutch is pricey, and my flywheel is a real lightweight-racing 73RSR unit which cannot be replaced) and not worth a few seconds of fun). If I wanted to do drag-racing, I'd buy a different car for sure...

oh i totally understand. You have a purpose built road course terror

and with several pricey/priceless parts, i wouldn't expect you to actually take it to a strip.

It's just my curiosity getting the better of me, thats all

No problem - I confess that I'd be curious to know what its 1/4 mile time would be too, just not curious enough

Z06 goes 0-60 in 2.93 and 0-100 in 6.98

0-60 in 2.93 and 0-100 in 6.98

I took my Z06 to the "Pinks" taping here in Dallas(Ennis) yesterday and it was running very fast. Unfortunately pesky track officials and a weak clutch kept me out of the 10s. I ran drag radials for the first time as well.
My first pass got me my first warning. I even launched at 1500rpms. 60 ft was 1.8 with an 11.45 @124 while granny shifting. I knew big numbers wer possible then.
I launched at 3K rpms the next time and scorched a 1.6 60ft time. The launch felt bad to me because I am not used to it hooking so hard off the line. The engine bogged a tiny bit so I granny shifted down the track this time as well. I didn't wanna get kicked off so early so I let off about 300ft before the line and hit the brakes hard at about 75ft. Here's the kicker. I ran even quicker than the first pass. 11.40@ 99mph. The 0-60 off my Gtimer was 2.93 and 0-100 was 6.98. That was pretty cool. That could have been a 10s pass.
I made a few passes more passes at around 12.0@80mph.
On my last last pass of the night there were thousands of people out there cheering on al the cars in between "Pinks" tapings. It was pretty cool having such a big audience. I decided ok time to get kicked out. The guy running the lights told me to go ahead and run my fastest. I had an ok 60 ft of 1.77 and ran an 11.28@125.6. They kicked me off anyway. Bastards.

Couple of interesting passes.
......60ft...330ft....0-60....0-100....1/4.....mph
Pass1.1.6....4.7......2.93....6.98.....11.4....99mph
Pass2.1.7....4.8......3.1.....7. 1.....11.28...125.6

Great time at "Pinks". They had snow mobiles that ran 8.2@160mph.
