Are you sure about that? 6 series (M6 included), TT's, SL's (AMG included) and every other sports car I can think off are limited to 250Km.

Not sure about SL55, but the 65 isn't limited. Sorry but the other cars don't make it to sports car status in my book...

Who cares? This is a Porsche forum - we only care about Porsches,
and in this particular section, 997s.

You should care. Other car companies are realizing that Porsche's comfy throne on the 100k sports car niche is ripe for attack.
The more relaxed Porsche gets with its status in there, the more inferior the product they give you, as they are clearly trying to maximize profits at all times.

Competition is always good for the customer as long as the customer plays by the rules of the competition. V8 Vantage and R8 will push Porsche to offer a better product, as will the e92 M3.

For example, I think sports-car enthusiasts need to take a hard stance with PAG on issues like the lack of delete option for 997 GT3s. The only way they will learn is through the bottom line, unfortunately. The age of globalized corporate culture does not care about prestige, but about profit.

This is not directed towards the engineers, which I have great admiration to, but the direction.

    ---------

Of course, Grant pointed out that the e36 320hp m3 (not US version which is like 270 I believe) did nothing to the Porsche product line in terms of power.

It will be interesting to see how the 911 tackles these new power wars with the 998. I think light-weight aluminum is the only option as a result of the eventual flat-six limitation... I'm hoping to lop off 100 kilos and bump up 40hp. I'd be ecstatic...

I do care from a competition perspective and that is welcome. My comment has to do with the techno niche. This is a 911 forum - a forum for all-in-the-rear cars. That is what matters to me.

The R8 is a mid-engine car - a different beast AFAIC. Such a post might make more sense on the Cayman forum.

So a 911 can only be compared to other rear engined cars?...

I don't see any problem talking about the R8 here, given it's clearly aimed at the same market.

    What other sports rear-engined car?

These forums are car specific and in the 911 case in particular this is a forum for its true aficionados. Unless, as I expressed before, you are just seeking the latest toy car...

    Re: Audi R8

    Moving on ...

I currently have a 997S and am taking delivery of a 997TT in March next year. I consider myself a Porsche enthusiast but, more than that, I am a car enthusiast. I am not slave to a brand and will not buy a Porsche just because it's a Porsche - unlike some people.

I wouldn't have thought it before but, as I like mid-engined cars, I now think the R8 looks an interesting prospect. With the experience of Lamborghini behind it as well, it should be a well sorted piece of kit and will, hopefully, give the 997 a run for its money.

    Re: Audi R8

competition is always great for the consumer!!!

    Re: Audi R8

Unless the lads at Lambo tuned the chasis, it'll drive like every other fast Audi - cold, lifeless and generally boring. Probably be safer than most though. Looks ok from a few angles, not for me though.

    Re: Audi R8

Love the car but just can't get with the automatic/tip gearbox. That thing would be fun with a manual stick.
