    Re: Autoweek & 430 Modena ?

"the two-seater will forego the 3.6-liter V8 used in the existing car for an engine derived from the 4.2-liter V8 used in the Maserati Coupe/Spyder and Quattroporte.

AutoWeek sources say the new powerplant's capacity of about 4.3 liters will produce 480 hp"

hmmm... the Maserati V8 itself is a tammed larger displacement derived from the original Modena's V8, so its probably just a displacement increase from F360's 3.6L to 4.3L to obtain the 480HP, which is the only way they can do it without turbocharging on an already normally aspirated 110HP per liter output engine.

480HP is quite a bit of an increase, Porsche better take good note for their 997TT.

    Re: Autoweek & 430 Modena ?

    Thanks Ron! Great news

480 hp and a 9000 rpm redline sounds great
As far as you can tell from the picture in the article, the "new" car will be more a modified 360 than a totally new car. Just as Ferrari did with upgrading the 348 to the 355 and exactly what I've expected.

The old V8 has reached its capacity limits and has nothing in common with the new V8, currently only used in the Masers.

    Re: Autoweek & 430 Modena ?

BTW, the car in the pic definetely has larger break discs.

    Re: Autoweek & 430 Modena ?

Carlos - The Maserati 4.2L is a completely different motor from the 3.6L Modena motor. One of the bigger differences (besides displacement) is the Maser motor uses chain driven valvetrain (like Porsche) instead of the belts that have been so expensive to maintain on the Ferrari V8's for many years - should make ownership a bit easier (after paying the purchase price).

    Re: Autoweek & 430 Modena ?

Thanks for the correction guys, my mistake then

The article makes sense now, but does the maserati V8 use flat-plane crankshaft as well or the conventional cross-plane? cause I hope Ferrari is not giving those up on their V8's.

As far as I know, only Ferrari uses the flat one. When they introduced the V8 in the 4200 GT they already said, the crankshaft will be changed when used in a Ferrari, which is good for another 50 hp or so on its own.

    Re: Autoweek & 430 Modena ?

    thnx for the post Ron!
