Isn't that only slighly heavier than a 911S (65 HP more)?

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

    thanks stefan! very helpful

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

In any case, and I can be wrong, I'm doing first numbers about the car, and price, and with some options, it's cost can reach to the "next" level price of the "next" level of performance (997TT), but, without reaching that "performance" (still, we have to see the car in the track).....not as cheap or "light" as expectations....

997S is 1420kg without or 1495kg with driver.

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

Whether one likes the R8 or not or quibles that it's built off the Gallardo architecture and engine family, the fact is that another mainstream German manufacturer besides Porsche has a two seater mid engine sports car. Let's see what BMW and MBZ has up their sleeves in response.
The more choices the merrier for all car enthusiasts and pushes all the manufactureres to make better sports cars or hopefully incorporate more value for the buyers' $$$!

    YES!

And also about the real performance..........

In any case, the car looks very, very nice. Fresh air, and the proper concept.

There were so many rumors spitting 3200lbs out, but with advanced AWD and V8, I didn't believe it... almost 1600 kilos is a lot unfortunatley

I feel, that unfortunatelly, still, on this days, miracles wirhin a budget are still a matter of faith!

Unless you go to not so "confortable" or "convinient" cars as Caterhams, Atoms, Westfields, Douglas Gardner etc....

Then you have Price and ashtonish performance, but....with no goodies....

Meanwhile, we have to "deal" with the options available for a "reasonable" "sports car"...and pay for them

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

Taking a que from Nberry, they said that only 5000 will be made worldwide, which is quite a bit less than Porsche 911. This may result in decent resale depending on the acceptence of the R8. I heard many V8 Audis and I know it will sound good. Mmmmm, V8 or V10!?

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

I love the interior, which has always been a strong trait of Audis. As long as they don't try to pull a "Porsche" on us by making everything an option, I am in.

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

It's growning on me all the time. Still don't like the engine note from what I've heard so far.

Whith all my respects, there are allways better investments than a car. If somebody is considering "resale value" as an impotant part of buying one, you'd better consider a serious stock market, industrial or real state strategy.....a car resale value is just "peanuts"!

A car is more of a personal choice, a desire, something fantastic to enjoy and share.......

Investments, even could be done in cars, are different considerations as buying a goodie that you wanted to have after your effort ..........

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

    0-100mph/0-160kph around 9.0 sec?

At the moment I believe so, but as for the future of sports sedans, I believe one of two options, both of which are predicated on increased technology:

1.) technological advancements in lightweight strong materials thus, edging the hp/weight controversy by lowering weight. In my opinion this is the true direction of the sportscar (akin to what Gordan Murray said about hp/weight issues in comparing McLaren F1 and Bugatti Veyron... weight can never be substituted by increased power, imo)

2.) Advanced technologies in suspension management systems that seem to "curb the fat" a la electronic suspension management-->599GTB. Many reports say that it doesn't handle as fat as it weights, which is a good thing, but for me I couldn't believe it until I see it.

    ------

Hard to balance safety, performance and comfort into one low-weight package, but that's the ultimate goal, no?

For now, I'll take a combo Lotus Elise and a 911 Turbo thank you very much

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

Targa ala Carrera GT... even better!

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

    Thank you also!

I'll take, at the moment, an Ariel Atom and a 977s

    .....but still on sight

Your missing the point. If cars are "relatively" equal in perf and allure why would you buy one that will have huge depreciation when the other will bring a decent return on the money you spent on it? Common sense must prevail.

    Re: R8 debut countdown...

8 colors - aside from black and silver, does anyone know what the other 6 are..? Is the light blue from the LeMans Concept available..? thanks in advance..

    Hi Kreso!

This is the best R8 picture available so far

    Just kidding

Thank you very much for all the interesting news on the R8. I like the pictures and the specs very much. Although, the R10 would be my car instead of the R8 - how unfortunate that we have to wait another 14 months...

BTW: They should abandon the rule that Lambo must be stronger/faster than Audi R; some potential buyers (like me ) might take this as the reason not to buy the R (a Lambo I would not buy anyhow )

    Many thanks again!
