You stand correct. It's actually VERY BAD Smiley. The wheels looks horrible!

The car design itself isn't bad at all, quite "time-less" for such a car, similar to the Tesla S.

I agree, the rims are looking bad...

    But they are black? SmileySmileySmiley

I think I am gonna patent that idea right now. The Tesla Hybrid.

No more range anxiety, for adding range, any gas station will do.

Problem with trailer you dont have autopilot option for that part, so when people turn on autopilot for parking precious generator will end up smashed against some wall or Prius Smiley

Honda has a 10,000w generator (same output as the plug-in at home) that gets 4.6 hours of running per tank of gas (8 gallons). That equals to "half a tank of gas" for a 85KwH p85.

So stick an external 24 gallon tank on the trailer and you could get an extra 600ish miles of range or 900 miles in total.

Then again I would never want to drive 900 miles non-stop...

The real reason Tesla is successful is because somehow all other auto companies are incapable of making relatively normal looking EVs. They all make ugly shit 99% of people would never want to drive.

Funny, I discussed this a couple of times with my wife and kids. Smiley Fully agree...even if the Tesla S may actually be the first "normal" looking electric car. The i8 is also good looking...kind of...too playful and the tires look pathetic that thin (BMW could have used a meaner look with wider tires for the i8, it wouldn't have changed much regarding efficiency).

BMW is probably the poster child for failure when it comes to Hybrid/EV design and marketing, and Toyota and the Prius aren't far behind.

One reason the i3 is mainly used by companies in Germany...as it seems.

This just in: People don't want they're EVs and Hybrids to look any different than their ICEs. The number one rule of EV design and marketing should be: Would someone buy this car if it had an ICE? If the answer is no, you should get back to the drawing board.

    Agreed.

Tesla recently hired Félix Godard, a young designer responsible for the interior design of Porsche’s deservedly hyped Mission E.

The Model S is following in the footsteps of the X and 3 and loosing the front grill on this upcoming facelift.

    Re: Tesla Model 3

I'd like to see the wind tunnel testing. I'm really interested in how such a flat or even seemingly concave front end help aero. I personally think the grill-less front end looks weird. A grill serves a purpose on ICE cars, but it is also a design element. Just because you don't need a grill doesn't mean you should get rid of it.

I partly agree, and I think keeping the grill in the original model S helped tesla relate more to buyers and car enthusiasts,  letting people to know they were buying a car, not a glorified golf cart, the point back then was "Yes were electric, but were just as good", now they've amounted enough reputation, respect, and following to change the tune and set themselves apart. Removing the grill emphasizes the fact that this is a departure from normal car territory. I rather like the way they've redesigned the front of the S, it's a form following function approach and I can respect that.

Aerodynamics isn't the only design issue facing Tesla engineers.  There's also the EU's pedestrian safety standards that have made automobile nose designs more blunt to decrease loadings on the lower extremities of unfortunate passengers.  Furthermore, the low stagnation point is instrumental in lowering drag coefficients, by directing more across the top of the vehicle, rather than under the vehicle.  The rear of the car, however, is a more significant influence on the drag coefficient than the front of the car as flow separation points, vortex generation and base bleed aerodynamics are greater contributory factors than a blunt or pointy nose.   This design looks like it also satisfies that condition.  Of course, without testing data at hand, this statement is based on educated guesswork.

Well, in Germany it gets a larger German front license plate, so it looks good but in the US without front plate? I don't know... yes The larger plain surface seems to "lack" something...

Front license plate requirements are dependent on the state.  Some make it mandatory for a front license plate, for example, Illinois and California, while other states do not.

    Re: Tesla Model 3

The front grille Elon knows is a huge imagine and to break to norm here plays perfectly into the whole philosophy. He dropped a traditional grille on purpose, because when a Tesla is in your rear-view mirror, you will know. It's smart and a little bit form-follows-function too.

Other people than Elon work at TSLA and make decision too.   However, this design element is about creating an identity for the company and mirrors with the Model X and probably with the Model 3, when it enters production who knows when from now.

    Re: Tesla Model 3

I like Model S' facelift. In fact I like it a lot. Much better looking than the current one, which is already a very good looking car.

I like the Model X despite its no so well designed rear end.

But Model 3 is a very ugly car that lacks of any sense of proportions. Definitely not my cup of tea.

    Re: Tesla Model 3

I'm loving the proportions of this car, and it makes me very excited for the upcoming EVs from BMW and MB because the EV powertrain allows for much more tighter design sans the engine block.
