The real reason Tesla is successful is because somehow all other auto companies are incapable of making relatively normal looking EVs. They all make ugly shit 99% of people would never want to drive.
Funny, I discussed this a couple of times with my wife and kids. Fully agree...even if the Tesla S may actually be the first "normal" looking electric car. The i8 is also good looking...kind of...too playful and the tires look pathetic that thin (BMW could have used a meaner look with wider tires for the i8, it wouldn't have changed much regarding efficiency).
BMW is probably the poster child for failure when it comes to Hybrid/EV design and marketing, and Toyota and the Prius aren't far behind.
One reason the i3 is mainly used by companies in Germany...as it seems.
This just in: People don't want they're EVs and Hybrids to look any different than their ICEs. The number one rule of EV design and marketing should be: Would someone buy this car if it had an ICE? If the answer is no, you should get back to the drawing board.
