    Ceramic disc pads...

Last weeks's MotorWeek's Goss' garage talked about ceramic disc pads. Supposedly these pads shed gray, non-sticking, non-corrosive brake dust. Are these generally available? Will they be approved as replacement disc pads by PAG?

    Re: Ceramic disc pads...

might be a dumb question but i am assuming they can be used without ceramic disc's right?

if yes and performance is good, i'm in......

Yes, they are available for steel discs. The question really is will they be appropriate for our brakes and will PAG sanction them?

One thing I would never mess up with is the brake system.
Why new pads? Do they last longer, are they shortening the braking distance? I highly doubt it. Keep off your hands from such stuff until Porsche gives their OK (which they probably will never do because the brakes on their cars are really something which doesn't really need improvement).

I agree! I posed the question because the issue was raised on a popular TV motor show. I've since talked with a number of Porsche experienced people and they all nixed the idea of using anything other that the manufacturer's pads on Porsche brakes. End of the affair.

    Re: Ceramic disc pads...

This might be a stupid question.
Does the ceramic disks option mean no more cleaning black brake dust off wheels?

    Re: Ceramic disc pads...

I own a 05 997S with PCCB. The car has 38000 miles on it (I like to drive it) and the wheels are spotless. They do not have any drake dust on them, period. None ever accumulates. It is a beautiful thing and perhaps the best reason (most practical) to upgrade to PCCB. The rotors look brand new as well. Stopping power is incredible, handling is noticably more nimble with the reduced weight.

Drive Right! (If you see a stupid driver let him know it via FriendlyStreets.com)

    Re: Ceramic disc pads...

well well, I know what option I will be ordering on my next car!
I actually enjoy cleaning the body but hate the time I spend cleaning the wheels.
Shame the price is so high! Should be standard fare.
