General Motors Confesses
Here is an interesting and uncharacteristic admission by a prominent auto executive.

At GM Europe, there is the Opel Speedster proto with the very small diesel engine (piccolo diesel, issued from Fiat collaboration), 1.3 l, common rail ... with 130 hp.

this is a quite impressive car, I saw it many times, due to fact that I worked on it in the past.

the 1,3 is a Fiat engine, you are right.
At Opel/Vauxhall, they never offer impressive diesel engines. They used the 2 and 2.2 which are quite good engines, but not giving the expected performance, compared to the VAG TDI engines. But though, they are good engines.
They just got another strategy about diesel. Now, they realize people like to have impressive diesel engines (those who kick your a-s-s, but are not always efficients). For the next generation they will use the 1.9 diesel engines from Fiat, and the 1.7 & 3.0 from Isuzu. I think this is a good choice, at least, at GME they can get something positive from the collaboration with Fiat.
