Big difference between normal paddle shifts and a DSG type gearbox!
I found the DSG is SO smooth when I drove an Audi TT with it a year or so ago. No jerky up or down shifts what-so-ever at any revs.

You could be right. "PDK" has a higher priority now but since rumours indicate that the development has been "changed" because the "old" technology based solely on DSG wasn't promising enough for Porsche and high torque engines, it may take a while until they finish "PDK".
Earliest introduction can be expected for MY 2008 but there is still a huge questionmark on that. The factory just re-opened, so maybe we should just wait for new rumours to flow in.
I also doubt that the high torque engines will be the first ones to receive "PDK" but on the other hand, I heard a rumour before the factory holiday that the GT2 will be the first with "PDK". Time will tell, we just have to wait a couple of weeks until we get more information.

I am also on the waiting list and would really like PDK. My dealer tells me it's under development but doesn't know when it'll be available. Come to think of it, even if he did know, he probably wouldn't tell customers because a lot of people might just decide to wait, thus hurting current sales.

All of this kinda fits with the news coming out of Audi with relation to their new platform and transmissions. I heard somewhere (Car magazine?) that their new line up will include 7 speed DSG, but only for the engines with lower torque output. Previously DSG has been for transverse mount only - the new box works with longtitudinal mount configurations, and enables the engine to be placed further back for pedestrian safety reasons (not that it matters in a P-car!!).
