    Spacers

Anyone any experience with Spacers on a 997tt ? Plan to mount 5/14 mm. Does that require any bodywork ?

    Thanks!

    I have 15mm C&R spacers on TechArt 19s.

    C&R?

Oops Sorry Typo H&R. 15's in the back and nothing in the front. At stock ride height they dont rub. If you lowered the car then I think you would have to roll the fender lips or only go with 10's in the back depending on the offset of the wheel.

    Re: Spacers

Whew...you had me there for a second, Rich.

    Re: Spacers

Hi there, I used 6 mm spacers I had on my boxster on the rear of the 997TT and it looks a lot better, with the tires almost flush with the fender similar to the front.
I highly recommend using longer bolts even for 6 mm spacers.
sorry no pictures available right now.

    Re: Spacers

    Rich,

Did you get longer bolts for your wheels with those spacers as aah986 suggested?

    Re: Spacers

    Thanks folks!

IMO it really looks good. I think the GT3 has spacers stock and it fits that car very well. I had it on my C4Cab and it made quiet a difference. However the car became a bit softer doing thight corners.

Any time one uses spacers, the longer lever arm acting on the suspension reduces the effective spring rate and the effective roll stiffness. The car will be "softer" and lean a little more in the corners.

Putting spacers on the back without also doing the front will make the car push (understeer) a little more than without the spacers.

Not to mention throwing a potential "monkey wrench" in the PASM software's algorithms.

    Thanks Mike, good hint

    Re: Spacers

The 997 TT doesn't need front spacers in my opinion, the front track is pretty wide, front spacers would make the tires stick out a little too much. Also, front spacers have the potential of causing steering wheel vibrations at high speed. Mike's understeer statement is correct but if you use small 5mm rear spacers like the GT3, it would not be significant.

    Re: Spacers

In about 5 weeks time I can tell you more ..
    Thx

    Re: Spacers

I have 17mm on the rear and the car just looks wicked!!! No effect on handling whatsoever.

    Re: Spacers

Rich, are you talking about a 997tt ?
    Thx

Yes, the Picture at the top of this thread is my TT with 15mm H&R spcers on the rear

    Re: Spacers

    Rich,
    very nice car! Congratulations!

    Re: Spacers

Congratulations on your car it looks very good.

However there is always some effect on handling after adding spacers, simply because suspension geometry is changed, more unsprung weight, different track width...

    Re: Spacers

It never ceases to astonish me how perfectly sensible people often act senseless thinking they know better than the guys at Weissach, substituting random parts and wheels for original geometries and wheel designs on a brand new car - a car without an established record to justify such changes.

    Re: Spacers

A.Dias, how do you explain the presence of spacers on the GT3 and also on the special edition boxster of 2004 which obviously never had spacers in standard form and doesn't need any ?
If small spacers were detrimental, why would weissach use 5 mm spacers on the GT3 and the boxster?
    Maybe you didn't know.

Oh I know, I know it well. PAG knows their newly minted customers well.

I don't think I know better than "the guys at Weissach" I just did not like their wheel choice, there lack of integrated Sat Radio and BlueTooth. They "Almost made it my perfect porsche" I justed finished it"

    Well said....

IMO, always prefer factory R&D and full warranty/svc support, rather than any aftermkt shop, where one is paying to be a victim of their dubious, laughable "R&D program"....and risking one's factory warranty....

Besides, any well-run, profit-driven mfr would offer PK, PSE, susp kits, upgraded wheels/tires, perf packages, etc at fully loaded, profitable prices (which can be capitalized into one's capital and sales tx-efficient $0 down lease ), rather than letting some aftermkt guy capture the profit, if factory engineers could develop these profitable "upgrades" in a technically sound, reliable manner....

But most buyers, esp used buyers and aftermkt buyers, prob have limited engineering and/or business common sense.....

I don't get your point. I always prefer factory engineering and warranty as well. We all do. I have a full warranty on my New Turbo. I understand that you like stock cars. I like making mine unique. I suspect there is a 50/50 mix of rennteam'ers that keep them stock vs modify. Tuners like TechArt and others build quality products and drive a very healthy aftermarket. However The fact that Porche did not include Bluetooth for example is Irresponsible, People use mobile phones. Not ones built into cars. So by definition people will be driving with one hand while holding their mobile phones in their new turbos. Sure you should pull over to talk on the phone or better yet not talk on your phone at all. But that is a different topic! So is adding Bluetooth Bad. Dangerous, impact the warranty? What is OK to change and what isn't in your opinion
