and I remember that people used to complain all the time about RMS leaks on 996s.
Nowadays, they're just pissed because they can't figure out how the sat nav works on their new 997.
When you see what happens to all these F-cars, it makes you realize that the problems porsche owners have are not much more than a over-cooked croissant at breakfast.

Incredible. I read here that Larry Ellison (CEO of Oracle) no longer drives Ferraris because he had two catch on fire. I tihnk I much rather prefer Porsche's RMS problems than Ferrari's fire problem! At least Porsche has a good excuse (brand new water cooled engine design).

Maybe Ferrari should install a fire sprinker system in their cars.

I was wondering that too, do porsches ever catch fire? I don't ever remember seeing a post of a Porsche catching fire.
The last problem of a Porsche, that was a little bit similar to those of the current Ferrari (although not as severe), was at the 964. If I remember correctly this model was known to catch fire because of the cramped engine/catalytic converter/exhaust design in the engine compartment. There were some law suits concerning this issue in Germany.

Wonder if there's a possibility it's a seasonal thing? August being the hottest month and all...............

The model 964 was recalled in 1993 because the resistor for the rear heater blower motor that normally operates to cool the engine after shutoff would heat up if the blower motor had seized and cause the plastic ducting to catch on fire. Porsche added a cutoff-switch to the resistor. The model 993 was recalled because the wire supplier to Porsche tried to "over-engineer" (polite way of putting it) the insulation surrounding the engine wiring harness. The problem was that the elastomer they used was not compatible with the high temperatures it would experience in the engine compartment and eventually would catch fire. Porsche changed the wiring insulation to PVC. The model 996TT and GT2 were recalled because a bolt attaching a high-pressure line to the power steering unit would come loose and allow power-steering fluid (pentosin) to leak onto the exhaust and burn the car to ground.
Porsches and Ferrari have a similar level of fire related problems you just don't hear about them (Porsche) as often and the Porsche fires are usually not the result of an accident/crash.
