PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

I went to American Tire, first time pricing, they said they would match any lower price I can find.ie. tire rack...
My P Zero's are looking bare in the back at 6k .
Ok, soo I like to corner ALOT.. these prices include everything install/balance.. are they decent?
Wowy, is this about the cost per tire for Pilot Sport PS2's??
    Hoping for best case scenario...
I mean... these new Pilot Sport tires lasting at least 10k miles
Help with prices you've seen!! thanks !

    Rears... size 295/30 ZR 19 PS2's $462 each
    Front...size 235/35 ZR 19 PS2's $303 each

    Can you say OUCH?

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

I pay $90 cash to have 4 PS2s installed and balanced on an M5. Different sizes, but not that much. All told, with shipping and install, I paid $1125.

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Is $462 a good price for the rears
help...someone must of bought Pilots for their 997, am I in the ballpark, or out? thanks soo much

These tires are Beasts in the back...love that though, the look!!

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Was just quoted $474 so your price sounds good.

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

What is Tirerack selling that tire for? That would be a good baseline to start comparisons from.

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Tire Rack offer the rear 295/30zr19 PS2 (N1) for $462.
However, they also offer the ContiSport Contact2 in the same size (N0) at only $320.

The ContiSport Contact 2 should last longer. My 997C2 came with them stock. Now at 4600 miles and have plenty of life left on them too..

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Good idea with the Conti, but
The guy checked and they dont make Conti for the fronts for my tire size , could that be possible???

I know 6k on my Pzeros is pretty sad!!

My Conti's are 19's, so I don't know why you were told that. I thought you had 19's as well.

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Conti ContiSport Contact 2 in size 235/35/19 (Porsche N0) are $209 at TireRack (and availability = in stock).

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Whats the difference in the Z rating to this N rating on the conti's...help if you know that answer please..

Is Z or N rating ok, or one better than the other..thanks

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

n is porsche specific tires. zr refers to speed rating 149+mph and are tires not specifi to porsche.

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

The Porsche approved 19" tires for the 997 and 997S (rear wheel drive) are:

    Bridgestone RE050A N0
    Continental Sport Contact 2 N0
    Pirelli P-Zero Rosso N1
    Michelin PS2 N1

6k miles? How can this be? I don't care how you corner. Are you driving with the right tire pressure?

Or... it could be you always do jack-rabbit starts and break very hard - both are tire wearers and add nothing to fast-smooth driving.

P.S. - How's your clutch and your brakes?

No Jack Rabbit starts here... LoooL

I had the springs changed to H & R dropped it down and then I lagged a bit on the 4 wheel alignment, love the handling zoom, otherwise I dunno why the backs are gone, like in bye bye!!
Your funny, my clutch and brakes are fine. I've had 2 Pcars, I know how to drive with my PSE on and a smile on my face.

Its reality for me, the backs are gone at 6k, ok maybe 6500!! by 7k I will be experiencing vibration!

    Tire pressure whats that?
No, I have Porsche do that for me periodically!!
I broke my nail on the back lid last week, no way!!

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

OK, the suspension change is probably it!

Tire pressure by dealer only? You need to check it weekly! No P-car driver will flinch at breaking a nail to check that.

And why nail breaking? I recommend this - accurate and easy to use, due to the spring-loaded chuck:

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

    Your making me laugh ADIAS..

You could have a valuable point to 15% of my tires wear problem, I commend you actually. When I sold my Boxster, the man said the tires were really low in air and gave me a tire pressure gauge checker as a bye bye present.
Hey I like the gadget in the link....

Yes the suspension change didnt help, but Adias I think you ROCK!!!!
Hey, I added oil last night....

Do you mean Porsche recommended tires? Saying Porsche approved implies that if you don't use these tires something will go wrong.

I had the Conti's on my Audi S4, couldn't wait to get them

off the car, perhaps it's heavy mass on them wasn't a good combo, are they compairable to the PS2 and PZero's?

I'm not sure of the distinction (if any) between "recommended" or "approved" but here's an interesting write-up from Tire Rack that deals with the N-designation.

This is from the article I linked above:
"Using tires that are not N-specific is not recommended and mixing them with other N-specification tires is not permissable."

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

    Two q's:

Can you mount N-rated tires on non-P cars?
If you are willing to take a lower handling level, can you use non-N-rated tires? e.g., I'm a poser, so I will never track the car, etc. Or even race in a straight line on an empty street.

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

    Vincenzina,
As you may recall, I dumped the Michelins after getting the rear puncture, and got a whole set of Continentals for about $1K with road hazard coverage from Tire Rack...they arrived the next day. Did the Hunter Road Force balancing for $10 per tire at Discount Tire and the car runs beautifully...hard around turns, much quieter than the Michelins...

Tire gauge...a good idea...even if you don't use it yourself...ask the teenage kid in the gas station to check your pressure...I'm sure he won't be able to resist an Italian girl asking him....

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Vicky, Vicky, Vicky. Check those pressures weekly! You remind me of my cousin who has an '01 Cab. She came by my house the other day and I told her I would check her pressures for her. She was at 22lbs and 20 lbs on her fronts and 23 on one rear and 21 on the other!!!!!! I fired up the compressor and inflated them for her.

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Are PS2s worth $470 more per set than Conti's?

I don't think so but that is just my opinion.

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport Tire Prices Help

Two rears- size 295/30 ZR 19 PS2's for tires and all four wheels balanced done for $888 by Porsche dealer.

SMILE, this thread has drawn me to starring at my tire pressure these past days. They already look low profile enough to fool me!! LooL I am guilty of not checking it weekly for sure. ...Its a lesson for me, but the H & R springs and 4 wheel alignments messed with my tire wear..

I am torn on which tires I want..I want to experience the PS2's cuz they are the soo called the 'best', Conti's interest me, but whats money really with a car like this..
    I WANT performance..Meow!!
I enjoy all the comments..Going to get tires right before the rains start.

I ask a friend to help..as I dont believe the guage, but your right, I need one..The Conti's interest me, great to here the handling rocks, and I remember you switched the other way ;-)..Yes, I priced all 4 Contis for about $1000!!!
Thanks for info..hmmm which way will I go!!!

    $462 each for PS2's Rears 19's
    vs
    $303 each for Conti's Rears 19's

Re: PS2's Pilot Sport installed YESTERDAY

Oh baby, I had the PS2's installed yesterday from the stock PZero's..Holy Cow, I am in Love more with my 997 now..what a solid feel, stiffer, flat and fat tires PS2's with the H & R springs makes for a very sexy looking 997,...tried to whack a turn and didnt even budge..Ok, I am sold and Cali weather is a rocking
Can you say just in time for an Indian Summer...Meow!!
I love the PS2's Pilot Sports. 19's WOW, what a difference!
Getting 4 wheel alignment and oil change Friday, then I am good to go!!

Kept the front Pzero's as backup still have 1/2 tread
