    GT3 Sunroof reply

Here is the reply that I just received.

If you have not written...PLEASE WRITE PCNA!!!

If you have written, but not received a reply WRITE AGAIN!!!

    Say NO to GT3 Sunroof!!!

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

Good for you. This has inspired me to write as well.

    Well done.

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

Likewise, I will now be writing a letter.

I am pretty disappointed with the obvious form-letter or canned-pitch-response from Mr. Nelson. The engineers in Weissach have very little if anything to do with PCNA's decision to import the 997 GT3 without the sunroof delete option.

If we are Porsche, and this belief resonates with PCNA as well as Porsche in Germany, Then I hope they are truly listening. There is really no need for a file, Think like the small nimble sports car manufacturer you are and QUICKLY correct this supreme lack of reseach and judgement.

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

So what's the verdict as to why there's no sunroof delete? The expense of having to crash test cars without? Or, is it that marketing survey's said people would want it?

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

"However, we can assure you that the decision to include a sunroof as a standard feature on all 911s was well researched by our engineers in Weissach, Germany."

What a load of sh**. PCNA has already admitted it was their decision not to offer the sunroof in North America and not PAG. Nice cut and paste job indeed. It's truly sad that Mr. Nelson has the audacity to lie like that.

I must have missed that. Not suggesting they didn't, but when did PCNA admit it was their decision and what was their reasoning?

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

Sorry I can't read the address. Where & whom do I send my letter to?

PCNA basically said that they didn't want to pocket the costs of certifying two types of roof structures when the vast majority of customers like having a sunroof. They made this statement the first year the 997 was introduced. It's in the Rennteam archives.

How could he say something stupid like that In Europe we need to order the sunroof as an expensive option, even on the Turbo.
Car does NOT come standard with a sunroof, this , like the SS issue is a US thing.
But if you read between the lines I think it means "sorry guys but it is like it is and take it or leave it"

He said that the decision to include srf was well researched by the engineers in Germany. Nothing wrong with that statement. I don't know why you are beating on the guy.
All it means is that having the sunroof would not result in any serious technical issues or drawbacks. I believe that.

I don't believe it has much of an impact on performance.

I'm leaning towards the former. Look at the GT3. Besides the base Carrera, I think that they earn the least profit in this car, amongst all of their lineup.
A high-tuned, NA dry sump GT1 block, advanced racing suspension, upgraded exhaust manifold, an expensive LSD all leads to less pork profits for Porsche (as compared to what they garner in cars like the Turbo via PCM, SC, luxury options etc).

I think we can unequivocally say that this was not the intention of the engineers, as Mr. Nelson facetiously states. If it was, why do they offer the sunroof delete in the ROW European models?

This is, as Mr. Nelson alludes to, clearly the work of Research and Development Product Planning department, or as I put it PPM- Porsche Profit Management. It also seems to be their most glaring slipup as of yet and I hope we don't let them get away with it.

With the costs associated with the crash testing that would be necessary, the alternative was probably to just not bring the RS stateside. Given that you can have the car with sunroof or not have the car at all, which would you choose?

Of course it could have just been brought over without the sunroof and with the rollcage and not had it be a street-legal car...

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

How do you like that comment by Mr. Nelson: "you are Porsche." I'm getting a little nauseous.

If they really cared that much in the first place, they would have the sunroof delete option. I'd have more respect for the guy if he was honest and just said it was a financial decision. Period. Money talks baby!!

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

Sent mine in. Took about 15mins to compose and cost 39 cents.
Even if it comes to naught it's worth the trouble (and very little at that) to let them know there is still an enthsiast base that gives a damn here in the U.S....Contrary to what they must believe.

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

    Patronizing, to say the least...

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

Just finished my letter. I bitched about the sunroof in the turbo too. Come on, give us a CHOICE! I already have a convertible. NO sunroof in the GT3 or turbo please.

    Re: GT3 Sunroof reply

While we're at it, we should write about the following as well:

    1. No -20 mm sport suspension with LSD offered in NA on 911
    2. No LSD offered on Caymans (or Boxsters for that matter)
    3. No sunroof delete option on ANY 911!

(My dream 911 was a C2S with sunroof delete and -20 mm suspension. SInce that didn't look like it was going to ever be an option in NA, I picked up a C2S with PASM (somewhat reluctantly). But a GT3 only available with a sunroof in NA b/c of greed?! That's going too far.)

1 is a bummer, 3 is unconscionable, 2 is in order to prevent Cayman sales from cannabalizing 911 sales (a la 335i no LSD, M3-->LSD).
