You will, for many years to come still have the type of exclusivity you obviously desire as it is a new car. There is nothing Porsche can do about the 911 to combat this. There are very strong rumors about the return of the 928 in the form of a two door version of the upcoming Panamera. This is scheduled for 2010. Probably a V8 from the Porsche Cayenne and should look similiar to the Vantage or perhaps more like the DB9 and priced somewhere in between.
My 928 with custom exhaust is the best sounding V8 you will ever here. The Vanquish S is amazing though. Aston makes the best looking line-up on the market now. Dr. Bez was product manager of the 928. Like carreraman says, hopefully Porsche can make a new 928 like coupe and do it right like before.
As to your AMV8, I think you made a great decision and hopefully it will live up to your expectations.

I went to a nice car show yesterday and when photos are posted by someone, maybe one will be of mine. I took a digital photo of my engine bay the other day on my phone camera, but don't know how to access it.
As to sound, I met up with an eclectic group to caravan up to the car show. We had 15 cars including a unique diablo, new ford gt, TR, and a mix of lotus, viper, and vettes. The show had everything including a 1930's bugatti racer, gt3, lambos, cobra's, and a Stanley steamer. That was the most impressive, no noise just steam coming out and it drove to and from!
