Stvarno... These tests are bad PR for the Turbo, and underservedly at that.

Are you sure this is the same test? I have not seen the article but this test seems to show the 430 winning more performance test than the Quattroroute test.

If it is the same test, then I believe this is the third US car magazine to publish it. Crash is right; very bad PR for the 997TT. But let's be honest. It is doing a favor for some would be 997TT buyers who decide not buy based on US published performance reports.

Nick, the tests are the same. There is no denying that the 430 is for the first time an equal performer to the 997TT, and not only bidding on looks, as was the case with the 360/996TT. Regardless, this test is a travesty and the editors should've actually used their brains. 996TTs with 420 horsepower have been known to trap at 118 mph. How can the new car only do 113?

    Re: Road & Track: F430 F1, 997 Turbo, Gallardo

0-100mph in 9.5 for the 997TT? Something is wrong...

    The 996TT did it in 9.2 .

    Re: Road & Track: F430 F1, 997 Turbo, Gallardo

BTW, it is the same yellow F430 that was used for Auto Bild comparison test. That car did not perform that well in Auto Bild test. In that comparison test Gallardo was the fastest car on the track(Oschersleben) and 997 Turbo was the fastest one in accelaration...

Yes. Look at the numbers, then come back and ask the same question, if you still think there's anything odd about our opinions.

    Re: Road & Track: F430 F1, 997 Turbo, Gallardo

What I do find most interesting about that test isn't the track times etc but the fact that the American cars got the top speed win, coming from a country where you can't go faster than 100mph on any public road 'legally'. I think it's hilarious.
And really, do you think anyone goes out to buy a car based on what a magazine says? Surely not. Although I'm sure a few will hide the magazines from their friends. Maybe the Porsche had bridgestones on?

The test is a joke. Look at the times for the Turbo. They supposedly destroyed the clutch and then had the car tested with the burnt-out clutch. That would certainly explain the dreadful performance.

    Re: Road & Track: F430 F1, 997 Turbo, Gallardo

Crash, magazine articles are jokes in the first place, just like Top Gear, for entertainment only. I mean, I don't care how fast Rohrl or Thiim go round a track, or what someone else thinks of the ashtray or whatever their gripe is.
Sites like these give some info on the cars, then you go out and drive the cars (like a PDE) or rent or borrow the car you want. Then you decide to buy it.
Like I care what Clarkson says about any car when he can't even get round Laguna Seca under 1.55 in a car that can do 1.40.

Firstly, I think the wrong Porsche weapon was used in this test. I think the 997 GT3/GT3RS would have been more appropriate. That said, if I were considering the 997TT, these track data results wouldn't affect my decision making one bit. The 997TT is still the best car of the test for everyday street use.

The test was sponsored by Ferrari and the Turbo was in bad mechanical condition, with a totally worn-out clutch. Don't concern yourself with these results, as they are as FAKE as Pamela Anderson.

    Re: Road & Track: F430 F1, 997 Turbo, Gallardo

Doesnt the R&T's 997 Turbo datas seem as same as the 0-250kmh video of 997 TT ?

    I am confused so much.

That video was made in Saudi Arabia. Temperatures of 45 *C, plus, we don't know whether the car was functioning properly or not. German members here report better acceleration than what was seen on that video.

    Re: Road & Track: F430 F1, 997 Turbo, Gallardo

A detailed test in a Belgian car magazine reports the overall improvement to the 996 turbo. About performance, acceleration is better (22,1 sec for 1 km vs. 23 sec.) BUT (!!) the 997 is 0.2 to 0.4 sec slower than the 996 for the 60-90 and 90-120 kmph tests in 4th and 5th gear. They say it's because of the greater responding time of the new turbosystem.

This surprises and disappoints, because these are somehow the most important testfigures concerning daily driving !

22 seconds per 1 km? That's odd! Several magazines have reported times under 21 seconds!

    Re: Road & Track: F430 F1, 997 Turbo, Gallardo

Some other numbers of this test :

    0-160 kmh : 8,3
    0-200 : 13,2
    400m from stand still : 12,3

What were these guys doing? Testing in reverse gear?

    Not very impressing either.

Strange, how numbers differ. But as I said before, I don't trust any car magazine number any more.
