    thinking of selling my 997s

i ve got 40K kilometres my garantie expires in a while and the face lift is too close.
    what do u think guys?
really hard to give it away but i dont want to loose money again like with my 03 range rover
anyway the turbo looks like a good idea because my 997s has the sport susp. and here in greece its a bit too hard
what about the face lift? is the turbo gonna get it?
    thanks
    i need your advice guys

Re: thinking of selling my 997s

No face lift for the turbo for a few years.

    I don't think that a Porsche will

depreciate as much as a Range Rover, I beleive that the 997 will hold it's value very well. If you can afford to upgrade to a 997 Turbo, go for it, I would!

Re: I don't think that a Porsche will

If you have 997TT money and the desire to own one make the move. No matter what car you have it will depreciate. Like Edward_Generation I would think the 997 would hold its value better then a Range Rover but I have been known to be wrong.

Re: thinking of selling my 997s

Hi I just sold my 330 ci Convertible as the new model is about to come out. I think though that the 997 will still hold its value. In the meantime if you want to go for a Turbo go for it but I am more orietated on two wheel drive so.... GT3 maybe ?

My advice is to change them about every 3 years about so in reality when you sell them still look new and you took the max advantage of the car.

    Regards,

    Florent

Re: thinking of selling my 997s

yeah..., sell it if you want and don't worry about looking back.

I WAS planning on keeping my 997S until I got too old to drive it (maybe 15-20 years) but slowly my opinion of Porsche has changed.

With all the mysterious electronics (AND SOFTWARE) in the car and the extensive interface of the electronics with the mechanicals I'm thinking it will be a PITA to keep it longer than the warrenty (or extended warrenty). (my CD/PCM would have cost me us$2500 to fix!!!!!!!!!!)

Because Porsche had to add some stylish "poser" elements (19s, quads, 50 button PCM, Sport Chrono, no spare) they've kinda pissed me off as a long-time fan.

    My position now?

Get rid of my 997S in a year or two depending on the turbo's progress. If the TT looks better in a few seasons (more options, colors) I'll unload my 997S and buy the *overstyled* TT.

When the warrenty's over on the *overstyled* TT I'll dump it and probably forget about owning Porsches anymore. By that time they'll be competing for an even wider market share and will have styled the sh*t out of the car making it look more fluted and winged and full of aerodynamic angles and fins, and plastic inserts, so you can confuse it with a Ponny Yak firebird or a corvette.

What's gonna kill it for me? These guys who got "aggressive" on the brain. "More aggressive grille," "more 'aggressive' rear bumper;" WTF? Why is "more aggressive" styling the message which Porsche seems to be getting? More aggressive: THAT'S what *POSERS* want.

    sorry rant over

    MMD,

I guess I didn't think you were ranting. I bought my 997S because of it's classic styling, figuring it will still look great 20 years from now. One of the reasons I didn't get a C6 Corvette (other than the fact that the 997S easily outhandles and outbrakes the C6) is the Corvette's over-aggressive styling. GM in general and a number of the other manufacturers have styled their cars to make them look like they are going to devour the car immediately in front of them. UGGGGHHHHH!!

As I'm getting up there in years, I'll probably keep my 997S for the duration, possibly trading it in on another one sometime in the future if I can afford it.

Yeah, I guess I just bit the bullet and MADE myself like the 19s, quads, PCM, SC, *TRIANGLE TAIL LIGHTS* etc on my 997S. When I see a mint 993 I seriously think of asking the guy if he wants to trade... Beautiful car that!

It's sad that the car is getting so popular and thus prone to "batmobile" stylistic trends. I bet in ten years, for we "purists" it'll be a joke to look at.

Anyway, I also want to apologize for my emphatic tone in above post (turns people off) but all this IS an issue "old" Porschephiles have to grapple with.
