    Accident

    This weekend sucked!

On the way home from a pleasant evening circuit, I stop at a local gas station to top off the tank. I exit the station onto the westerly highway service road towards a four-way intersection. The westbound light is green (had been for at least 3-seconds) and I note all southbound traffic is stopped at the light. As I proceed through the intersection under a solid green, I catch a flash of red screaming from the left heading northbound.

I slam my brakes in time to avoid being broadsided, but as my car dives it smashes the sedan in its side; flipping it onto its roof. The sedan slides to a stop just in front of the sitting southbound traffic.

The other driver appeared to be ok, though in histerics. Her companion was in better condition but still disoriented. Thankfully, police and medics arrived within 5-minutes to secure the scene and assess injuries. The other driver was stabilized and taken to hospital for tests.

The investigating officer says his accident report will reflect I had the right of way, but it is small comfort when I look at my car.

Many of you know the agony I went through waiting for Factory Delivery in April, then final U.S. delivery in July. Some of you shared the bliss of a beautiful Hamptons Summer drive. Now my dream car is smashed because of someone elses irresponsibility.

I'm glad everyone left the scene relatively unharmed, because it could have been a lot worse. I suffered some minor cuts and burns from the airbag deployment. I may go to my doctor just to be certain that's all. Hopefully insurance and autobody work will salvage the car, but everything is different now.

Be careful out there. Drive as if others haven't a clue, because the reality is most don't.

    Re: Accident

omg ... that's horrible, I feel bad for you. Hope everything turns out ok, the most important thing is that everyone involved is ok. Cars can always be replaced.

    Re: Accident

Reading that..I am crying with you

    Thank goodness your ok.
    Happens in a split second!!

    Re: Accident

Good to hear your ok, and the others as well. That sucks for your car, it was so nice in the pics from your trip. Hope it gets back to as close to normal as possible.
    Any pics?

    Re: Accident

Glad your OK.....and as long as you are, you have the perfect opportunity to do a little upgrading or reconfiguring.....but still...you have to play the waiting game.

    Re: Accident

    Glad you're ok!

wise words...gorgeous car that was. let us know your plans for its replacement.

    Re: Accident

This is the reality of today's traffic. Glad to hear that you're okay and that the airbags worked. Many people today are alive or less injured thanks to those things. That was a big reason for buying a 997s--better protection in all situations.

    Dan

    Right there with you

My car is STILL in the repair shop 5 weeks after being damaged by one of the parking guys in my garage, and with another two weeks before it's handed back to me.

Two things: First, in your case you're lucky to be alive. Second get acquainted with the concept of diminished value and make sure you claim for it against the other party's insurance company in addition to fixing the damage caused.

    Re: Accident

Sometimes bad things happen to great people.

Sato- let me know if you need anything, from local body shop recommendations and so forth...

    Re: Right there with you

    Sato,

Sorry to hear, my condolences. Your car is still beautiful and will be restored and you'll never have to think about it again!

With all the idiots on the road, I drive with the mindset that EVERYONE is out to ram me.

If you need help sourcing hard to find parts, (which is usually where the wait in body shops comes from) talk to gert@carnewal.com - he can help expedite things, espcially when it comes to exclusive option replacements.

Best of luck and keep us updated.

    -Tom

Sounds like a rather hard impact - big luck that nobody got hurt What a shame I really admired the pics of your beauty from the Hampton tour

Yes, unfortunately that's the golden rule in today's chaotic traffic

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your baby

    Re: Accident

    sato,

I hope your baby is like new very soon. I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt.

    Re: Accident

Glad you're alright - did the airbags deploy?

    Re: Accident

Glad to hear that you (and the others) are okay.

Good idea to go to the doctor just to verify also. Echoing Dan L's comment, the safety the cars offer is a great comfort.

    Re: Accident

Suuuucks. Suuucks big time. At least you didn't get hurt.

I'm not too far behind you. A few days ago, going legally about 40mph it seemed like this car at a stop sign decided to drive right into me. I steered and braked fanatically and I *barely* missed the teenager on the cell phone in the other car.

Yes, she was inexperienced, in a hurry, and distracted BUT: it was like she INTENDED to drive into me and missed: SH*T!

    Re: Accident

Sorry to here that bud, luckily you were not at fault. I wish your car and all who where involved a speedy recovery

    Re: Accident

Awful news mate - really feel for you. I agree about the safety of these cars - it was a really important factor for me when buying as well and it's worth bearing in mind that many sports cars would not offer such protection.

    Re: Accident

Seems like this is going to get messy.

I spoke with my claims adjuster this morning and he tells me that the two women now are claiming they had the green light and I broke a red light. Furthermore, both were injured more seriously than apparent at the scene. The driver claims to have chest and rib injuries. The passenger is claiming a fractured neck.

I also get a call from some random personal injury lawyer offering to get me medical attention and, oh yeah, legal representation if needed.

Now more than ever I am dependent upon an accurate police report, and honest and observant witnesses.

    Re: Accident

As per sato's request, here are pictures from his accident -- a truly sad event...
