Actually - I always said the 996 is ugly. But the older it gets the better it looks. I think it goes pretty well as a young-timer. And - their prices are soooo low right now. On the other hand side - all engines had problems and blown off. That car with 500.000 km on the clock for sure has some updated mechanic clicking.

Ah...Sportec...paid them a couple of visits with a friend, nice guys...nice company...haven't heard from them much lately (are they still in the Audi tuning business?).

I owned three 996 (996 C2...one of the first built in Germany, 996 C4 Powerkit (rare) and one of the first 996 Turbo (later modified by RS Tuning) but to be honest...not a fan. I prefer the 997, sorry. Quality was sub-par in many regards, many issues (especially C2). I didn't get them for their nice look (I actually hated the looks) but for the driving experience. My tuned (engine, gearbox, clutch/flwheel, chassis, etc.) 996 Turbo was the most amazing experience I ever had in a Porsche, pretty raw, loud and super fast. Also, this car was with me when my wife got pregnant, when my first child was born and my girl loved driving in this car (it was super loud but she always fell asleep ), so I have fond memories of it. Never should have sold it, loved it.

I owned two 996. Actually the first one ways my first Porsche and I bought it brand new in Zuffenhausen. The second was the facelift which was already much better than the first. I loved that car, too. Also - the second had the better shaped lights!
Yeah... good old memories and I understand your emotions for the car!
Gnil:I young guy in my small town has a silver one . It is his DD and he drives it the whole year . So cool ! Each time I see him I wish I had one .
My love for Porsches actually started when the 996 was around, so I'll always have a soft spot for it.
The model I love most is the mk1 GT3, where I think the headlight style and body style match perfectly.
The only negative connotation I have with the 996 is that it is the first mass-produced 911, with all the downsides that come with it. Still, I'd love to have one. Actually did quite some shopping around, but in the end had to cancel since I can not justify the costs at this moment and in addition I have no place to park it... well, hopefully soon! :-)

I am loving the 7600rpm red line, Sportec have always revved these 24 valve turbo motors high, I remember showing Schmirler a vid of a pals 997 turbo Sportec motor revving to 7800rpm and being told it not last long - from this pic it looks like Sportec have some magic sauce

Agreed, after driving 996 Cup car, the lights turn okey, I start liking them, maybe because they are yellowish...

That's Pierre's turbo... so the old engine and on top of that the car had some "tweeks" done.
@Pierre, stunning you still drive the beast around man! I forgot; did you go for the "rocket launchers" in the end or not? Woah, I remember the Sportec wallpapers of these days... that was my ultimate modern-day dream 911 back then:

Lars997:I got my first 996 in the year 2000 - that's 17 years ago. Was like yesterday!
Not really...don't you have mirrors in your house?
Seriously...I need to do some serious workout this summer, have been way too lazy lately.

Yes, of course I went for the rocket launchers! And close to 600 HP with 820+ Nm.
Nice. You do realize that we need shitloads of high quality pictures of the beast now, don't you?

+1 and what have you done to engine and tranny
Mike S:I used to dislike the 996, but ended up liking them so much, I ended up with one a few years back. Funny how one's taste can evolve over time
Yeah...we're getting older and blind.
The older I get, the more I feel attracted to cars other than the 911 and this worries me because I've always been a Porsche nut. Time for Porsche to go "960"...just saying.

Lol, 996 was my first Porsche too, C4S, and I had actually had 2 of them too.

Same here. The 991 2CS was the summit for me. That car and that misery of Porsche Center which didn't want to sell me that GT3RS made me change the feelings for Porsche. I really got enough of it and currently have not a single itch to buy one again. It leaves me ice cold when being in Zuffenhausen. Old days I got goose bumps just when entering the city. Today - I feel more tempted on vintage cars as well on the AMG GT-R/C.

I hope Porsche reads this and makes sure you are treated as you deserve . I find it appalling that customers like you end up walking away from the brand because of bad service . Porsche should make a special service for the 3 % customers like us !
