    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

    How about Cedar Green?

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

    Or... Linen?

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

    Or Vesuvious (allegedly):

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Hey cool that Rocky Mountains colored car is my dealership...wonder if they still have that thing. Is it Signal Green or Viper Green? Anyone clarification? I know of Signal Yellow. I actually like the Rossa Corsa but I think only with the body kit or on a GT3.

Not sure if most would agree, but I think the Rocky Mountain brown ROCKS! Seriously . . .

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

    Nice!

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

I know it's not paint-to-sample, but I'd love to see some decent outdoor shots of Dark Olive, if anyone has some...

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Hellgelb - Is your pic of the Mexico Blue GT3 another one of your amazing photoshop job or is it real? Also Should this color be named Mexico Blue or Riviera Blue? I'm confused and need help to confirm the paint code. I found this in Autospies and believe this is a real life one.

I'm quite sure that this shot is of Mexico Blue.

Go to the Rennlist site and go into their 993 forum. In there (do a search) they have a photo of Mexico Blue and Riviera Blue 993s together. Subject line is "uncommon exterior colors"

Mine, below, is Blue Turquoise, one shade away from the Mexico Blue, which is darker, still, than the Riviera.

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Dan L - I think I have the pic you are talking about...

But it describes it as Turq Blue vs Riv Blue..

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Dan...Your 'special' blue remains the best looking of all of them!

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

The Mexico Blue C4S is a real car, from Porsche GB, I think.

I reckon it's impossible to tell Riviera from Mexico from a photo - you really need to see them in the metal, when the luminousity (?) of Riviera really pops out. Another shot of Mexico below, just for good measure.

Looking for these paint to sample cars, I was a little surprised that nobody has specced Fayence Yellow on a 997. Or maybe that's a colour they won't do?

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

    GUYS!!!!!

    Semi GOOD NEWS!

My mail to Porsche AG has been read, and the GM has responded. The response was pretty quick, I send out a mail last Fri (Aug 8 2006) and got reply by the follwing monday.

    Situation as follow:

    1) Porsche factory has informed the GM about an "in principal" approval for colour-to-sample exterior colours for the new 911 GT3. There is no confirmed start-of-production date yet as the factory carries out paint quality checks for the various exterior materials of the GT3;

    2) After a number of very polite e-mail exchanges, I am quite positive that it will be possible to get color to sample for GT3. But I have been recommended to choose "Porsche" colors only. One of the points I convey to them in Germany was the fact that if Porsche is so proud of the color to sample option, then customers should be allowed to pick a heritage color (at least) for a creme de la creme 997 like GT3;

    2) I've just 2 seconds ago, received an acknowledgement from Head of Customer Commitment, Porsche AG ensuring that they will take up this matter seriously and its their philosophy to satisfy customer requests...bla bla bla. Which is good.... so far;

    3) One of my good friend, suggested that I should push a little harder, cos surely Porsche must have a timetable w.r.t. the Paint to sample for GT3 (well... those engineering guys surely have a timetable and even work out critical paths to ensure efficiency... especially German engineers). I'll give them a few more days before putting on further pressure. Afterall, getting a Porsche should be a happy and stress free experience right?

Here is my update so far. Will give you all a progress update.

I've been surfing this site, as well as rennlist.com a lot for the past few days. Before I hammer my final choices, I want to ask all you Porsche enthusiast about one more color.... Will GULF BLUE look good on the 997 GT3? I saw a CGT wearing it and it does look attractive.

Hellgelb - If you have time, would u mind giving me one of your splendid artistic impression of a GULFBLAU GT3?

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

I'm glad you asked that question! I attempted to order a Gulf Blue 997S Cabrio in August of 05 and after 60 days Porsche came back and said that they were unable to paint it that color. They claim that the clear coat processes for the various parts vendors results in a 'two tone' appearance on the light, non-metallic colors. As such, they have essentially taken over 160 colors off the list of 'approved' factory colors. They have continued to add to that list over time. The Carrera GT, however, was paintable in any color as their process is entirely different. I suspect the GT3 is a lot closer to the Carrera S as far as bodywork is concerned. If you search either here or the Rennlist 997 discussion groups you'll find that tale,--I think it was "The Saga Of Paint To Sample." Here we go: Posted Feb 25 of 2006, that title in Rennlist.

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

I really ought to be studying the Weighted Average Cost of Capital, you know... never mind.
Here's a bash at Gulf Blue on a GT3. Although as DanL said - I doubt they'll do it.

You could always buy a white one and have race car 'sponsor' coating applied (?)

Dan - I don't suppose you have the Porsche 'Verbotten' list to share with us ?

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Sorry to confuse you guys with the dual thread discussion. I'll stick to this thread from now on
    Thanks Dan & Hellgelb.

GULF BLUE is indeed stunning! How long did it take you to learn to use photoshop like this (both speed and quality)?

I think if you are running the Porsch Paint Factory, Dan L would have got the Gulf Blue car already

Seems like Gulf Blue is a no go.... hopefully there would not be a problem with Riv Blue.

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Hey hellgelb in Ecosse, the 997 at Goodwood was Riviera Blue, I've got a photo of the sticker & just verified.
    PS Goodwood is the greatest.

    Doh!

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Got a bit carried away with the blue & orange, must be the Long Island Iced Teas...

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Unfortunately, Porsche hasn't come across with the 'verbotten' list of colors that they won't paint. I suspect the list changes all the time as they get around to testing them. The key from Porsche (for the non-metallics) is if it is too "light." They're apparently the final authority on what is too light. Perhaps if enough interest and pressure is put on Porsche AG they may work at getting some of those popular but off-limits colors back on the paint list. I suspect what they need to do is to 'qualify' all their sources of miscellaneous parts. They claimed that it was inconsistencies between the various clear coats that the suppliers use that ultimately determines whether they find it acceptable or not. Otherwise it has a bit of a 'two-tone' look to it.

A friend of mine here in Santa Barbara saw what a nightmare I had getting Porsche to paint my color that he wound up ordering a new Cayman S in simply Carrara white, and drove that car from Zuffenhausen to Ruf's facilities immediately after his factory delivery. Ruf is painting his car a custom light blue metallic, and then tricking it out with a custom suspension and supercharging the engine!

Hi BruceinCary - Can you post this pic of the Riv Blue 99 in Goodwood? Thanks

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Wow some look nice, some look

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

It's the sixth picture from the top, of this thread, the new 997 S on the wooden deck.

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Thanks... I thought that was a Photoshop. It sure looks NICE!

    Re: Some different colour-to-sample

Great topic - curious to see some more of those pics!

There were two German mates competing in Gumball with a Gulfblue GT3 - if I am not mistaken this car was originally painted white or blue, with the rest of it covered with coloured film.

    One more shot of Flamencored
