Interior Noise - standard 997 vs 997 cab

is it true that the 997 cab is more silent than the standard 997?
i read several tests and they also post numbers for the interior noise at 50mph in 4th gear and so on. and always the cab was more silent.

can anybody proof that. i can hardly believe that...

what type of noise you are referring to??

engine?
soft top rattle?
interior rattle?..

i love to listen to my engine all the time

and i find minor soft top rattle noise..on bumpy road..

other than that..everything seem perfect..

no, i dont mean rattle or something like that.

i think most of it must be wind noise, some tire noise and some engine noise.

have you never seen those numbers in an article?

My 997S was at the OPC for warranty work recently and they loaned me a cab for a few days...I thought it sounded quieter than mine, mainly sound from the drive train...it was a tip though mine's man.

okay.. i just came back from a 2 hours drive..

i was doing average 200km/h on a highway... and i found the engine sound is louder than the wind...

which i just noticed after seeing your post...

well.. very interesting...

thx, but i am talking about coupe vs cabrio and not engine vs wind noise ;-)

Cab is noisier

Wind and road noise are higher in the cab and you hear other cars and trucks more than you do in the coupe. The trade off is that you get to enjoy the fresh air...

I honestly was amazed at the sound levels in the cab vice the coupes. Not nearly that much higher. When I get an opportunity one of our other Rennlisters or Rennteamsters will be sought out for objective testing of his coupe vice my cab in various scenarios. (I have extensive test equipment).

Its a trade off, fresh air is great, but I am more comfortable in the coupe, except for closing the electric sunroof constantly catching my hair.The cab sometimes was too much vibration noise for me like over bridges.
Even in the coupe, when you have the sunroof open on the freeway, its hard to hear a CD.
I dont agree the cab is quieter..just my opinion having had both.

I'm not surprised to learn the cab is quieter inside than the coupe w/ windows closed. The cab seals like a bank vault. I'm guessing you have more insulation from outside noise w/ the convertible top. Defintely feels quieter than the 996 coupe I had. Otherwise with the top down the cab is obviously the opposite and you can really hear the engine/exhaust especially if you have PSE. But where/what are the comparison #'s?

I haven't been able to find articles comparing the various sound levels between the 997 coupe and cab.

Years ago when I bought my 996 cab I read articles at the time comparing the sound levels of the 993 coupe and the 996 cab. The 996 cab was quieter at all speeds. And the 997 cab I now own is considerably quieter than the 996 cab.

I don't have the top up very often, but when it is up the car is fairly quiet inside at highway speeds. They are really done a good job with the 997 tops.

If I understood the figures, it appears that the cabriolet is quieter than the coupe at all speeds. That is quite impressive.
