I wonder if it can be "chipped" for an extra 75hp like many turbos for very little money?
Probably can be, but why would you? A daily driver should be perfectly reliable IMO, something which chipping it can't guarantee.

Don't aske me why: the 335i Touring I met looked pretty attractive... With the right rims and a good color.
BTW: The new X5 has a rather tradional style (no Bangle elements). I wonder whether BMW will get back to their traditional desgin. If so, this would clearly be a step into the right direction

You can easely get 35 HP more out of the Audi/VW 1.8 l turbo with a chip with absolutly no problems. Had one for 6 years.
The same with the the S4 turbo engine .. 20 % power increse is safe

I know this, but look at Kreso's post regarding the VW Golf GTI, which detonated due to an ABT chip. Not saying they can't be reliable, but how do you guarantee that?

A factory engine can also break, no garantee against that but to replace it for free. In my opinion/ experience, the risk with a 20 % HP increase on a turbo engine is low and I would take it without any hesitation ( but done by a proper tuner) The ABT chips here is Switzerland on VW/Audi are factory guaranteed.... that says also something.

Pretty fast indeed. This car and the upcoming M are going to raise more "Porsche give us more HP" conversations :-)

BMW under-rated power data for 335i. Actual power is around 330-340hp/420-440Nm! The same thing as Porsche did for its Turbo engine's for sometime...

340 horsepower sounds about right. Just a tad slower than the M3 at a higher weight. At 20% extra power with a chip, that translates into 410 horsepower! If you want to get frisky, you might even get 430. That would put it in the high-15-second 0-200 km/h territory. And all that for 40.000 USD. Boy, are Americans lucky.
