Can someone tell me whether the Porsche is willing to accept GT3 orders in "Paint to Sample"? I like the "Riviera Blue/Mexico Blue". But my salesman in HK told me they will only produce GT3 in colors shown in the brochure.

So is the salesman just lazy after getting my deposit? Or can someone confirm the mexico blue GT3 is straight from Porsche factory?

This is the special color Slate Grey Met. (in german: Schiefer metallic; in italian: Ardesia metallizzato).

I am beginning to wonder if you can't do paint to sample on the GT3 since it's NOT an option on the UK car configurator whereas it IS an option on the UK car configurator for other 911 models...

I think may be we should ask hellgelb, about the mexico blue GT3 pix he posted on in this thread.

I personally can't understand why GT3 can't do paint to sample... its a collector's item and should allow the owners to personalise their car.

Hey Hellgelb - would you know if this car was painted by Porsche directly? If so, I'd like to challenge my salesman about GT3 can't do colour to sample.

If this is a fotoshop job, then its a damn good job

Photoshop it is. Sorry if I got anyone over excited...

The GT3 order guide seems to indicate that paint to sample is not an option. I agree that ain't great for such a specialised car. Maybe because they're built by Porsche Motorsport ?

I've just sent a letter over to the Porsche Head of Customer Commitment and someone at the Porsche Excluive program in Germany today, requesting the possibility of getting the GT3 painted in "Riviera Blue". If not why not given its a signature heritage Porsche color.

Its not as if I am requesting to install rocket launchers and lasers on the GT3... so wish me luck.

On the configurator there seems to be the option for Paint to Sample,at least in the UK.

Sorry just checked the configurator.They did have paint to sample as an option but it seems to have been withdrawn.This is a pity.A GT3 in Mexico Blue would have been nice.

Semi GOOD NEWS!

My mail to Porsche AG has been read, and the GM has responded. The response was pretty quick, I send out a mail last Fri (Aug 8 2006) and got reply by the follwing monday.

Situation as follow:

1) Porsche factory has informed the GM about an "in principal" approval for colour-to-sample exterior colours for the new 911 GT3. There is no confirmed start-of-production date yet as the factory carries out paint quality checks for the various exterior materials of the GT3;

2) After a number of very polite e-mail exchanges, I am quite positive that it will be possible to get color to sample for GT3. But I have been recommended to choose "Porsche" colors only. One of the points I convey to them in Germany was the fact that if Porsche is so proud of the color to sample option, then customers should be allowed to pick a heritage color (at least) for a creme de la creme 997 like GT3;

2) I've just 2 seconds ago, received an acknowledgement from Head of Customer Commitment, Porsche AG ensuring that they will take up this matter seriously and its their philosophy to satisfy customer requests...bla bla bla. Which is good.... so far;

3) One of my good friend, suggested that I should push a little harder, cos surely Porsche must have a timetable w.r.t. the Paint to sample for GT3 (well... those engineering guys surely have a timetable and even work out critical paths to ensure efficiency... especially German engineers). I'll give them a few more days before putting on further pressure. Afterall, getting a Porsche should be a happy and stress free experience right?

Here is my update so far. Will give you all a progress update.

I've been surfing this site, as well as rennlist.com a lot for the past few days. Before I hammer my final choices, I want to ask all you Porsche enthusiast about one more color.... Will GULF BLUE look good on the 997 GT3? I saw a CGT wearing it and it does look attractive.

Hellgelb - If you have time, would u mind giving me one of your splendid artistic impression of a GULFBLAU GT3?

Good luck getting a Gulf Blue. They refused to paint my 997S Cab in it. Something about not painting light nonmetallics (see Rennlist discussion).

Dan - I read your "Saga on getting Paint to Sample" just now... Glad that you finally got your car in the Turquoise Blue you like.

Would you mind sharing your experience with me how you approached the guys in Germany in terms of who you contactd? Am I pushing hard enough by approaching the Head of Customer Commitment in your opinion or do I need to push further up the hierarchy?

It seems like you pushed extremely hard and still got rejected due to technical problems. If thats the case, I will not waste the effort with Gulf Blue to push it through again.. though I do believe its B/S about Carrera GT is handmade and therefore received special treatment.

I would not take NO as an answer for the Riviera Blue though. Its been done on a C4S, and there is a video in www.youtube.com with a 997 TT (just type in 997 Turbo and you can watch it). I would definitely not accept it if they tell me TT's body parts are vastly different with a GT3.
