    Upcoming Audi R8 vs. 997tt: How will they compare

    Two areas performance and Build Qualitiy.
    Will the midengine build give the audi an advantage.
    And is the audi to par with the 997 quality and technology and engeneering?
    I started this thread because they seem like they will compete a lot and I have a friend whos going to choose between the two.

    Heres my take
    Design:R8
    Accleration: Turbo
    Braking: Turbo
    Handling: R8
    Interior: R8
    Luxury: Turbo
    Build Quality: Turbo
    Excitement: R8

    Mid engine doesnt really mean better handling. Thats like saying a F430's handling is better than GT3/Turbo cause its midengined...


    I'll go for the Turbo...

    Isnt to fast to say which is better?

    I mean, we didint even officially see R8 , so we cant know a lot about handling, if we dont even know how it will look

    Defenetly Porsche has better image, but that doesnt mean its a better car And it is nice to see that competition is going bigger.

    You are right... It's very early to say. But the Turbo, well, it's the Turbo .

    420 hp FSI V8, magnetic suspension, manual or sequential (not DSG). A year after this base engine comes the R8 with a 520 hp V10, while the Gallardo gets the 550 hp FSI. Lighter than the 997TT. Supposedly does the Nordschleife as fast as the Gallardo, withj much less horsepower. There's a thread a few pages back, started by Kreso, which goes in quite a detail about this car. Stay safe!

    I thought about it as well. I will be getting my Turbo next year April but could have ordered an R8 and thought about for a nanosecond and then ordered the Turbo.
    Like someone said already : it's THE turbo !!
    I can't wait to get mine. Sure, the R8 will be great but to me the Turbo is something else.

    This compison is like 3-4 months early. Most of the R8 specs are pure speculation.

    Here is a little update on R8. I will have German Dealers Guide on 14th August so it will be then emailed to several rennteam members(Hello to Ron, Temm, Andrej, Markus and others!).
    I had a pleasure to see intro DVD with production R8 and car is simply awsome IMO! Interior is totaly new for Audi and is looking fresh and new. Specs?! You will have to wait little bit more but, GT3 level... Sound?! In F430 and Gallardo class! Audi is pretty low in any public details yet but, we will have all info very soon here!
    Regarding Hockenheim and Ring times for R8(4.2L V8) it will be in Gallardo's class on the Ring and faster(!!) then 997 Turbo(1.13,7min) around Hockenheim...
    BTW, I had a chance to drive both Audi S6 and TT 2.0TFSI...
    S6 is excellent car indeed, great choice as first car here in Europe(winter times!) but, TT is amazing! Best front wheel drive car that I ever drive, much better then VW Golf GTI! It is not suprise that AMS said that new TT is better in drive dymanics(18m slalom, VDA, etc.) then Boxster!!

    Need to go to have quick coffe and then to the beach with my wife!

    I actually think the Turbo is better looking myself than the R8 (and I'm not a huge fan of the Turbo's looks in the 1st place)...

    thanks Kreso, keep the news coming! this is going to be an amazing car which can truly compete with the 911s of this world.
    I particularly like the fresh design (elegant and dynamic without being too agressive, great work Walter!), something P has completely forgotten about with the 997 (choosing the beetle retro look instead of CGTlook). in fact the new facelifts coming show that even themselves are not happy with it anylonger! Maurer will (correctly IMO) push for even more changes in the future (but btw I think it's a kick in the teeth of 997 owners - at least I'd kick my butt if i were a current 997 owner).
    If Audi gets the pricing right for this one (and does not do the mistake BMW did with its sportscars), the is no reason why it should not be a success. and who knows, they might take my 996tt (and that of others) as a trade-in...
