Well my new Road & Track just arrived and lo and behold has a very similar test as the new C/D. It is :
Ford GT, Gallardo, F430, Z06, Viper, 911 Turbo.
And guess what? In this test the 430 beats the Z06 by 2 seconds around the road course. I was very surprised. And the 911 Turbo seemed to be lagging a little.

The comparism lacks an AMG SL 65 or 55. It wouldn't be as fast as the 997 TT, but it would be intresting to see the figures in comparism. Especially since the SL 55 (with performance package) was round the Nuerburgring in 8.06 min. a couple of weeks ago.

For the Roand and Track article, it turns out that both the F430 and Gallardo were wearing PZero Corsa tires, thus accounting for the significant gap in lap times.http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/m-lounge/7877172-1.html
Not sure what tires were worn in the C&D test.

I cant believe R&T allowed P Zero Corsas on those 2 cars without saying anything. 
Man that has to be a HUGE advantage. Are the Corsas even what comes stock on the cars?

Well, those tires should attribute about 2 secs difference.
Remember, these are Corsa *System* tires, like those that were OE on the Stradale, and they are nothing like a Pilot Sport Cup or an RA1. There are full-on Corsas that a real honest-to-goodness R tire, but these are not the same. I've never driven the Corsa Systems, but I've got PZero Rosso on my 430, and they perform very well at the track. I had RA1s on my 360 and I have to say it felt like the Pzeros were generating similar g-loads. I'd love to see a comparo with PS2, PZero Rosso, and Corsa System tires...I bet there wouldn't be a whole lot to choose among them. Look at the skidpad and slalom results at the referenced link, the 430 numbers are right there with the Viper which is on Pilot Sports.

Thanks for the post, the Z06 is very impressive! I think one thing is true - that the 997TT will probably the easiest of those 3 to drive fast for the average joe, it seems porsche really makes a car that make the amatuer look pretty damn good. This has been mentioned by C&D and other people in the media.
Anyway, the Z06 is pretty sweet! I wonder how the 997 GT3 will stack up to the Z06.
ps. that torque of the 997tt is AMAZING, it looks like a diesel torque curve.
