You're right but I was in the same situation you are in. I was going to get a Carrera S, but then test drove a GT3 and decided on that. Then I thought I should wait for a 997 GT3 instead. But the thing is when I get a 997 GT3, the MKII of that will come out and I'll wanna upgrade to that again. So I just went and got the 996 MKII...It's gonna be like that and yes, it will hurt resale value of the current GT3 when the next one comes out, but what can you do???
I waited almost a full year for a cellphone 'cause everytime I decided on one, a better one was introduced. Just get the car you want now...

Joinng this one late...
I've done the Ferrari thing and not only is it difficult to drive which includes the hard clutch, gated gear box!! They cost the absolute earth to service which really scares me when considering putting it on the track on a local tarmac Rally.
Whereas a GT3, although I haven't driven the 997 version is a much easier car to drive in my opinion handles better and will never answer back at like a Ferrari would....

I would get the GT3. I don't like the way the F360/430 looks. Especially the front bumper looks too bulbous and ugly. Also don't like the poser, gimmicky, clear engine cover. The F430, and I think F360CS, also has "Godzilla" vents on the sides of engine cover which look tacky.

Your smoking dope if you think the F360 is more tacky than the wing on the GT3. I know the wing is functional but it makes the car look like it should be on a race track full-time or a boy racer honda. The 360 has very classic styling, not as classic as the 550 or the 997S, but the GT3 is as classy looking as a corvette with fuzzy dice. I own two 2006 Porsche sports cars and a deposit on the new 997 turbo cab. but "give me a break" and be a car fan not just a Porsche fan. The 997 GT3 is a wonderful track car, but to start claiming the Ferrari's have guady styling in comparison is a bit of a stretch.

I reckon someones on the money here and I think it is important to point out that the GT3 Wing is a little bit over the top. As a matter of fact it took me years to get over the wing. However the wing on the GT3 RS is pure SEX!! Carbon, Purpose built and an awesome place to shelve books in the garage.
Now the 997 GT3, is Buzz Lightyears ahead of all the competitors for both a track and everyday car. I don't think any other car comes close to it.
Getting back to the 360, clearly a gorgeous car that is going to be stunning for the next 100 years, the finish inside is outstanding and that screaming 8 Just howls gives you tingles at the back of your neck!!!

Mainly cause I didnt want to wait long for the car. I doubt I'll ever buy a New Porsche cause of the long wait and the fact that you lose all that value just by driving it iff the showroom floor, so if I had to opt for a 997GT3, I'd wait untill I can get my hands on a used one and that would take toooooooo long... I'm 21 and dont have that much patience
Besides, my GT3 is still good enough for me as its till one of the faster cars around a track... I'm beating guys in their F430's over here (I do have some racing experience, but still) so the need for a faster car is not that huge at this mo.
I DONT think the GT3 is overpriced... Think about it. Its faster than most other car's costing WAY more (F430, Gallardo, etc) around most tracks (including N'Ring). Those cars may be faster in a straight line, but to make a car accelerate fast is easy, and does not exactly cost alot.
go for the GT3 buddy, its really is value for $$$ and it sounds AW SO ME

I am going through this exact dilema right now, and not suprised to see the responses 'leaning' toward the GT3 - without question an awesome car.
For GT3 = as above
Against GT3 = waiting times, 997s on every street, aerokits on 997s, depreciation once off the showcourt and depreciation once an update model (3.8l?) is increasingly talked about, GBP 92k for the required spec.
For 360 = looks, exclusivity, sound!! (nothing like it), prices looking good for sub 10k 03 and 04 models
Against 360 = servicing
The heart vs head test:
imagine standing in front of a 360 and a GT3 and having the choice... this is the reason why I still cant walk into the OPC and lay down 10k for a GT3, even though I know the GT3 will be the better drive, faster, more reliable, cheaper to run, latest technology etc etc...
doesnt make sense, though nor does spending that money on a car... just what makes life fun.
