    Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

    http://need4speedfr.free.fr/CarreraGT303.wmv

    Enjoy it guys

    the sound is amazing!

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

here is one of the Carrera GT drifting

    http://need4speedfr.free.fr/CarreraGT309.wmv

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

I watched the video and looks like the CGT accelerated from 0-300kph in about 19secs? Can anyone confirm that the video has been edited or takes place in real time? 19secs to 300kph seems very impressive.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

    0-300 km/h Official time 27 sec.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

That 0-300 time was all I needed....

Now just for my sake, lets do a performance comparo...

    0-100km/hr/60mph

    SLR 3.8 seconds
    CGT 3.8 seconds

    0-200km/hr/124mph

    SLR 10.6 seconds
    CGT 10.2 seconds

    0-300km/hr/186mph

    SLR 28.6 seconds
    CGT 27 seconds

    Top Speed...

    SLR 208mph
    CGT 205mph

    So the SLR is quicker...

BTW, the noise of that car from the inside is AWESOME! And how fast it accelerated past 300km/hr!

    These "supercars" really are QUICK!

Completely in a league of their own...

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

By chance do you have the downforce numbers for each car at 300kph?

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

Bilal, the SLR was not quicker, it was faster.

Quicker means it accelerated faster, which was not true. Faster means it has a higher top speed...in this case thats true.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

See Bilal, what did i tell you about being the thread terrorist?
You're trying to hijack yet another thread..

    I'm ultra tired of this..

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

Justin, I don't have the numbers, but rest assured with that flat underbody 6 channel diffuser/airbrake, and general shape, its pretty stable...

Reservoir dog, sorry meant faster, if a drag race took place, CGt would win up to about 200ish, where the SLR may overtake...

Brunner, look its not complete hijacking, we're still talking about the CGT...

And anyway, even if a I was a thread terrorist, what do we need a regime change?

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

I see CF you've cleverly edited my 0-300 numbers for the SLR, oh well, the SLR has exceeded 210mph so

    700-800 kg for the CGT.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

When the Carrera GT reaches a speed of 330 km/h it has a downforce equivalent of 300 kg total with 30% applied on the front and 70% on the rear.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

When Walter R was taking journalist for runs on that air field he was hitting 208 with the car still pulling, just ran out of run way. The CGT can easily top 205, thats a typical Porsche conservative number. It wasn't made to be a top speed only kind of car. The CGT will easily hand the SLR its hat on a track.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

Just for Brunner's and every other Porsche fans sake, I'm not going to reply to that track comment

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

Here is an interesting link concerning the downforce of various road/race cars.

Hmm, ... My memory must be faulty, CF.

I could swear that Roland Kussmaul told me the figure I stated in my previous post when I was talking to him at the Geneva introduction.

I mentally made a quick calculation that it was about 40% of the weight of the car, and therefore wouldn't be too tricky to drive at the track (unlike a 956/962 which can generate more than 100% of its weight in downforce depending on speed).

I must have made a bad math mistake in my head and remembered it on that basis.

Or, maybe he said 700-800 pounds (not kg)?

Oh well, ... I guess I'll keep quite about it now

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

At its top speed of 330 km/h or 205 mph,the Carrera GT builds up downforces totalling 2846 Newton.
For reasons of stability downforces are higher at the rear, with the Carrera GT featuring a front-to-rear force balance of 30:70.

    Copyright Porsche.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

    Good find, CF.

    2846 Newtons = 290 kg = 640 lb

In a make-belief-world maybe but in the "real world", I would definately doubt the SLR would overtake the CGT since you have to take into account how the car handles at close to top speeds and its stability to be able to make use of full throttle at those speeds with slight bends, uneven firm, crosswinds, etc. of the real world highways and tracks. Paper figures are one thing, real world application is another.

    Bilal,

When you wrote "overtake", didn't you mean "take off"?

    fritz

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

Here's another nice video, Dutch spoken... but marvelous engine-sound, understandable in all world's languages.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

Why does everyone "blindly assume" that the SLR is a disaster car? I eman sure it has bad brake fel and the ride is firm, but what did journalists expect S-class ride? If anything, the SLR is the best handling car Mercedes/McLaren have ever made save the F1 and CLK-GTR Supersport.

Now, just because we have downforce numbers for the CGT, we all thik, the SLR will take off as Fritz said to Mars, I eman come on, since McLaren yes the F1 company, designed and built the damn car, don't you think they'd give an ounce of interest to high speed stability or handling? Why did Mercedes give the SLR to Mcalren to build? Because McLarne have extensive F1 experience, and don't tell me that means nothing...

The SLR has a 6 channel diffuser, flat underbody and an airbrake the size of an RUF rear wing! iT has a cd value of 0.38, and is stable as a rock at high speed. You may won the high speed AMG argumetn that day, and I agree, I wouldn't even dare taking a corner in any AMG car at 180+mph, only in a Porsche, thats when I have the balls to do it

Its like we blatantly derogate the SLR I mean with the exception of CF, how many of you have actutally driven the car? I think teh CGT is an awesoem car, awesome power and soud, but the SLR also needs to be appreciated, so does the Enzo, they're all in the same league...whther we agree or disagree. Never underestimate any car...certainly not those that come from Germany

And if high speed stability, was a concern, what do you have to say about this, car, it had no speed limiter? And Mr. Michael Schumacher had one, don't you think he took it up to top speed?

    Brabus EV12 582bhp 7.3 V12...

And without that airbrake, the SLR would do 220mph, and THEN take off...

    SLR is a mega success

    Bilal,
Don't worry about the SLR's success, it is already assured, as opposed to the Enzo and CGT, it it not production limited, although for number's purposes, I think MB announced 3000 over 6 years.
As a true example, my friend from MB France told me a anecdote yesterday.
Thierry Henry, famous footballer for Arsenal (Our european members will recognize the name) asked for an SLR and MB UK told him, sorry, no VIP treatment nor discount on the car, you can have yours end of 2007! UK SLRs are sold out to end of 2007!
Being french and famous, he turned to MB France who managed to get him a 2006 production date.
My point is, I understand your passionate communication with other members, but don't bother, 99% of future SLR owners don't even know what a car forum is.
    The car will sell.
Also, interestingly, my friend told me that from 2006, the car will receive modifications to the chassis settings that will be upgradable to current owners and also a much bigger option list, 13 more colors will join the current two available, more interior colors, etc.
Currently, the only two options available are
Red leather int for Euro 10,000
19 in wheels for Euro 10,000
I told my friend this is ridiculously expensive, MB thinks so too, but people are happy to pay, so... Fair point.

Re: SLR is a mega success

I'm not worrying at all, I know mercedes has a lot of SLR orders, the point was downforce and the general "theme" of some of the posts here. Its like Mercedes builds incapable cars, and Porsche rules because they have 50 tons downforce at 100mph. I know Porsche have soem of the most exciting, adn around a track undoubtedly capable cars money can buy, save F1 cars, but don't sell other cars short is what I'm trying to say, i don't come in the CGT posts, and say what a crap car, waste of time, does the world need another supercar? I know no one ever said that, its just that the "disliking" is evident.

And speaking of the "real world", the acceleration numbers generated are by expert drivers and controlled conditions with numerous launches to get the best numbers, in reality do you think all 55+year old CEO's will be able to shift a shoulder mounted gearstick like Schumacher? I think we can safely say that the SLR and Porsche CGT are basically equal in acceleration. Makes you think about the value of torque, 1700kgs vs 1400kgs, same bhp, same speed, shows the "disability" of inferior torque characteristics of N/A engines vs. FI engines...

Theirry henry? I thought he stuck to Renault cars? Surely he can explain to MB france the "french for va va voom".

Re: SLR is a mega success

    Bilal,

I think that you may be correct about the average wealthy buyer being able to extract performance out of their vehicle. Then again, no one is drag racing each other, and there is much to be said about driving enjoyment. Some get more from keeping their foot to the floor, and others don't mind losing a few tenths of second over slightly delayed shift if it means higher involvement. You are just going to have to accept the fact that this is a sports car board and this opinions will be reciprocated widely. I understand why you come into every CGT thread and show the SLR has comparable straight line acceleration, but I don't think anyone finds it especially relevant.

I disagree, you buy a supercar for pace, involvement second...

You only said that because you are conceding defeat...

    Please...

    Grow up gentlemen.
On behalf of all Rennteam members, thank you in advance.

Re: Carrera GT 0-306 km/h Video!

the link doesn't work Dr.! As it is from RTL is it the "Stapel op auto's series" where you found this? I don't see it down there?

He is in my city as we speak! the Arsenal is playing my hometeam, the Celta de Vigo (who is going to get a beatin' I'm afraid ) in the Champions League But at least he is not freezing his gonads off like the Real Madrid players who are up in RC's land about to shut Kahns mouth again with a few goals from Ronaldo, Raul, Figo, Cidane et al if their muscles don't freeze that is
