a question to owners: i have now done 320km, 99% under 5K revs, never more than 2,5K revs when the oil temperature is below normal. just now the warning came on 'oil level at minimum' !!!!!!!?????? is that legit? can someone tell me what oil to put in, i do not have the manual with me.....thanks a lot, peter
ps: i hope this is not the first sign of on oncoming serious engine issue...
pps: the car does not need a strong compression on the nordschleife to bottom out. a slight irregularity on the road where i live is enough to do that. i have never really seen that road irregularity before,no other car i ever had took notice of it. today i went over it twice with maybe 40km/h and ...clooonnnnkk. hmmmmm.......
Whoopsy:0W-40 Mobil 1 is the engine oil you will need. It's 0.8 litre between min level and max level, so less than a full bottle.
Never heard of a car needing oil top up so soon though.

thanks whoopsy. seems way too early for me. at this point i shall top it up and enquire right after easter.

Make sure you confirm the oil level before topping up (follow exact procedure in manual while parked on flat surface). Many people mistakenly overfill and it's a hassle to remove some.
16 Cayman GT4, 73 Carrera RS 2.7 Carbon Fiber replica (1,890 lbs), 06 EVO9 with track mods. Former: 73 911S, Two 951S's, 996 C2, 993 C2, 98 Ferrari 550, 79 635CSi
Only put 150ml in, Peter, when the engine is up to operating temperature. Start her back up and let her idle for around 4 minutes, then check the on board oil level while she is still running, you then should have around 2 green bars on the level display, maybe just one. So many have over filled when topping up, I do 125ml at a time to eliminate doing it. The level display on the 991GT3 was very sensitive, so the RS I bet will not be much different.

991 GT3 pick up in October 2014.
day two with the GT3RS: i topped up the oil until it showed three notches full in the digital measurement (flat surface, engine running four minutes at idle, warm engine). did 250km and at the end of the day the measurement showed only two notches!!!!!!????? seems that it eats more oil than gasoline.....:::)))) will double-check with the dealer on tuesday.
running in, currently at 5,5K revs (except.....hmmmmm....short forays into the unknown:::))), car feels super-planted and really tight in all it does. maybe i am easy to entertain but i enjoy it even at 3K revs. kudos to preuninger's team, they did a wonderful job. the car is very street compliant and it seems you can up it whenever you please. the 458 italia feels like a BMW 3 series sedan in comparison. i would love to do a head-to-head comparison with the 458 speciale but i dare to conjecture that the RS is more hardcore than the speciale. maybe not faster (or most surely not) but more hardcore in terms of the feeling it conveys.
i need to correct myself, the downshifts in PDK SPORT are very nice, 458-style:::)))). the loud-exhaust button does not do anything i can feel (and hear) from the inside, maybe it has an effect outside.
downsides: the car gets very jumpy on bad roads (although it does not feel overly harsh) and at 150km/h the stereo gets totally redundant. it will be interesting to do vienna-monte carlo in one day and see how we get out there::::)))

Depending on how fast you drive and the quality of the road you might want some earplugs. The noise is nice but when doing long runs I fin dit tedious.
Have a nice drive!

It was the first time with this car - but the weather was bad - much rain - and with the Cup2, it's not ideal! But the car feels great and special. Totally different as my 997 MKI Rs! Next time will be the 10th of april in Francorchamps, dry I hope...
