    Werk I, Then and Now

    As many of you know Porsche has been changing the face of the factory over the past many years. Here's a fun comparison between 1977 and 2006...(my new (then) 911S is the one on the left) Dan

    ...and today,--with the new 911S, in the same spot. (Note all the new construction).

    Nice. Is that your car (with hardtop) ?

    Or a different one. Looks a little Mexico, although that could be the shade.

    That is very cool, Dan. You even captured the same angle on the left wall and roof...

    I kind of like the cobblestone parking lot in the old one...bricks probably deteriorated over the years as 911's grew heavier and heavier!
    so they must have taken your hardtop off just after this pic and stashed it there during your touring?

    Not too drastic. A lot of the buildings in Stuttgart are considered historic so they can't rebuild for example

    Very nice Dan. I think the building looks better in the first (older) pic. Looks a bit rococco in the 2nd.

    Maybe, but cars look a little "barock" (baroque in English and French? ) in the older pic.

    Correct observations. After Louis and I ran over for this picture he dropped me off at the current customer service center and then dropped the hard top off. They have a place nearby the factory to store them during one's tour of Europe. Of course, it is blue turquise. The Mexico blue is considerably lighter. I can't say that I like all the new construction in Germany. They have gone over the top in the modern direction, and they had such character in the old ones. My home from 1964 in Wiesbaden had been torn down (we had rented one floor of an old mansion) and replaced with a more modern 20-flat apartment building. Progress. This last shot is of the place in 1977. Notice the race car prep happening in the background. 935s? Dan

    Dan, would you want to have to pay the heating costs in a Wiesbaden winter for an old mansion house when oil is at 60 or 70 US$ a barrel?

    Fritz,--oh so true! I'm sure that Frau Mueller was forced due to economics. (She was our wonderful landllord in those days).

    Very nice pictures. I was at Werk 1 in May. Took the factory tour. Very very cool. Nice to see how my 997S was built.
