Wheel bearing question
I've got a whirring noise from the rear of my 99 986 which the mechanic seems to think is a wheel bearing. Sounds right to me: noise occurs only at speed independent of engine speed.
My question is: other than the really annoying sound (which I can't really hear with the top down), is there any risk to driving the car for a few weeks without repair? Could the bearing completely fail in a way that would immobilize the car? The reason is that I'm selling it this summer when my 997s arrives and would just as soon not (a) loose another week of summer driving, and (b) have the bother.
Thanks.
