    Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

After almost buying one over the weekend I have come to the conclusion they dont. They were asking $40.9K and came down to $39.4K and they thought they were doing me a favor. Granted the car was in mint condition with 12K miles but I would have thought they would have come down much more than that. Granted this is a Porsche and not a Chevy but still...

This is the second time I have encountered this with the not budging. Is this how they typically are?

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

Don't know about used cars but they sure do with new ones.

Just special ordered a new 07. Spoke with several dealers. Ranged from MSRP all the was to 7% discount off MSRP. I believe that they will all deal.

Even if you don't buy it from your local dealer, the dealer will be happy to bill Porsche for the warranty labor.

I bought local with about a 5% discount.

FYI, I have bought almost all of my cars through Sam's Club Auto Network. They only have a few Porsche dealers but one is in NJ. These guys gave me the best offer. $5,000 off on a car for a $35 annual membership fee is quite a return.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

Same with me - my dealer worked with me for a brand new '06 987S -- roughly 5K off total....

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

There is a lot more room to "deal" with new cars than used, unless the person who traded it in really took a bath. These days you can usually see what the trade-in value really should be and you can get the dealer close if you're buying another car from them. So depending on what the dealer paid for the trade, he might not be able to go any lower. Did you pull a value for the car in question from KBB or Edmunds? Are you way under what the value is?

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

I purchased mine new and they came down $5000 off of list.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

None of this is "dealing" though, you all realize that right? 5% off MSRP? That's the dealer, spitting on your shoes.

Every other car I've ever bought has been at a price less than $1000 over invoice. You can't get a *deal* on a Porsche, best you can get is a chocolate chip cookie.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

You sir are quite correct. I guess people that spend this much money dont care about saving a buck - I do.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

For the record, my dealer only gave me $2000 off MSRP.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

Where are you guys finding the 7-10% off a new order? Dealers in AZ hardly budge at all, and they get insane prices for their used cars too.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

Might not tell much about the market right now but when I bought mine in 2003 I got it for $1500 over invoice.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

Last fall, I had a dealer offer $10k off one of the last '05 base boxsters on their lot. This fall will be a great time for bargains, what with the upgraded engines in both the base and S models for 2007.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

Here in Spain at least, it is impossible to deal with them. I'm looking at this moment at a Porsche approved 986 Boxster, and all the dealers told me that the price is the one listed and no deal at all.... So I don't know how it is with a new one... but it seems that there is no deal in Porsche Approved vehicles.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

Porsche in the UK are strictly forbidden to offer any form of discount. If you are part exchanging for a new Porsche there may be some flexibility in the trade in figure, but that's it. I have also been told today by my dealer that 2007 UK allocation of vehicles has been cut by 600 to help prop up residual values.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

How do you gauge a deal on a used car? So if the dealer was $50.9k initially and came down to $43.9k, would that be a deal?

Hmmm. Maybe Porsche has been taking lessons in marketing from Nick Berry?

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

Who is Nick Berry? I did a search and he is a celebrity. I am missing the connection.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

My special order 2006 Boxster S was $67k MSRP. I paid roughly 5% over invoice at $61k.

    Nick a celebrity?

While it might be possible to be a celebrity and a troll, being a troll doesn't turn one into a celebrity.

    Nick is rennteam.com's court jester.

Check out his posts under username "nberry".

There's an awesome number of them in the Porsche forums, considering he is not what you might call a Porsche fan.

    Hi, Nick.

Your dealer may be telling the truth, but here in the US, a lot of us have learned to ignore such talk. It's common for dealers of all makes to say that their cars are in limited supply (and, thus, try to curtail the discussion about a discount). On one of the other boards, we've been told by some salespersons that certain Porsche models are very limited. Then you go and look at dealer inventories and there are piles of them -- Boxsters, Caymans, Cayennes, etc. One could say that the dealers are lying. I prefer to think that they've gotten so used to delivering this line to customers that they're beginning to believe it themselves.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

I've consistantly been told that the color and options I want are the ones in short supply. I really don't think I'm that mainstream, I think it's a ploy to make me willing to buy on their terms.

For the record, I got $6,000 off of my 07 997S just ordered.

If a dealer won't deal, call another. You can always buy a cheap air ticket to the dealer and enjoy breaking in your car on the long ride home.

A fellow who works with me did that with his 06 Corvette Z06. Where he lives they were selling way over list; he found one here in NJ for list while here for a biz trip, bought it and drove home to Chicago.

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

    <- 9000 off msrp, about 10%

    Re: Do Porsche Dealers Deal?

I bought my '06 987 off the lot in May. Sticker: $51,365, I paid $45,365.
