Mercedes AMG News

New options for Mercedes AMG models(this options are for EU only at present moment):

SL 55 AMG
Performance Package(300km/h, 19", ABC Sport Ring Suspension, Aerodynamics pack as SL65, 380mm front brakes)
AMG Speedshift Plus(new programs called M1/M2 for gearbox with extremly fast shift times-a la SLR)
AMG LSD(40%)

CLS 63 AMG
AMG Drivers package(300km/h)
AMG LSD

E 63 AMG
Same as CLS 63 with additional
AMG 19"

Also available are 280km/h option for ML 63 and CLK 63.
AMG is offering Corsa tires as well.
Full leather options are available now from AMG(not only Designo!) including full Carbon Fibre options. New catalogue is over 120pages...

Awesome kreso thanks for posting!!

Interesting, I asked AMG a few years back if they could make the SL55's transmission shift as hard and fast as the SLR's. They told me: impossible; two different transmissions. Now somehow some software and mechanical tuning later, voila!

Thanks a lot again for posting. An SL55 (still my favourite Mercedes) with the enhanced engine, paddle-shifters and shifting as fast as the SLR is a masterpiece to me!

Kreso, is this new AMG "Exclusive" catalog avail to view on-line yet?

Just heard from my dealer that CL will get 63NA motor (Spr07 US launch)...prob a major step-down in usable, urban fwy-relevant tq vs 55....will be interesting to see if they also put 63NA motor in SL....

Also saw that Merc is giving away its tough-to-sell '07 SL65s in US w/cheap $0 down, 2yr leases (<$3500/mo) that bring 65 costs within strike range of leasing new, loaded 997TT every yr....

Perhaps interesting marketing tactics at MB....putting weaker motor into mid-range AMGs to force 55 tq addicts upmkt to 65....which is being heavily disctd so it's only sltly more expensive than 55/63 w/030 PP....

Btwn my vague recollection of high school German and google translation, should be able to understand most of it

Very interesting how, in face of buyer resistance to raising base prices on cars in past 10-15 yrs, P/F/MB are each opting for extensive and very profitable performance and cosmetic options on their cars....997TT "needs" about $30K in options; a 599 about $50K in options; and SL55 about $20K....

And w/these new "Exclusive" options MB can prob extract an added $10-15K in new cosmetic options from many jaded 55/63 buyers....and w/the tq-detuned 63NA motor, tempt a few buyers up to a heavily disctd 65 (still more expensive than a loaded 55/63)

BTW, I had a chance to try E63 AMG and let me tell you one thing this car is awsome! It pulling power is on same level as 997 Turbo! Belive it or not... And throttle response is in its class for such a big engine. Car was with 300km/h option, 19" and some other features. New 7speed AMG gearbox is excellent-car is going like a mad dog from the start, no need for stupid "power-torque". New technology I guess...

Appreciate your feedback

....will keep an open mind re: 63 motor, as I haven't yet had chance to drive it. Given the high regard for the engine's chief engineer (developer of CGT motor, right?), I won't be surprised if I'll like 63 motor more than 55, esp given its higher tech NA characteristics and advanced tranny....

Given AMG's seemingly increased focus on sharp steering, I may get a CL65/63 for daily, straight-line commuting work in early '07....hard to beat CL's combo of high-tech toys, safety, comfort and prob outstanding interior finishes (esp w/this new Exclusives program)....

Great times to be a car nut w/choices like CL65/63, 997TT and 599 as arguably this yr's ultimate trio, best showing latest/greatest technologies from MB/P/F

Look forward to a full review of your thoughts on the E63. Did you get any pictures?
