Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

    noone1:

How does a convertible undermine ALA? It still works fine as far as I can tell. ALA involves the front end and the airflow through the wing. It might not be as effective with the top down due to the overall worse aero, but the ALA will still function.

Besides, the best selling version of the Performante will be the Spyder, just like everyone dumped their SV coupe for the SV Roadster. Given the negligible difference in real world usage/performance, people want convertibles more than coupes.

ALA functions as you have stated on the front of the car, controlling airflow under the vehicle and through the diffuser.  This, as you have stated, is not affected by the spyder version of the car.  However, with the wing and its blown airfoil sections, the air flow is sufficiently disturbed from the shorter convertible, when closed, and from the turbulent airflow, when open, over the windscreen header, that there should be concerns about its efficacy.  The coupé version has ram air intakes before the wing and directly behind the backlight.  Airflow over the backlight will remain laminar over that section of the car; the same is not true with the convertible as the airflow becomes detached and unstable with numerous vortices being shed.  At normal speeds, such as those found in the U.S. the lost efficiency isn't significant, but, it will become significant on the racetrack-do realize that few of these cars will ever spend time on the track-and its downforce vectoring system is hampered as well.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

Well, being that I think 90% of the gains are actually from new Trofeos and a Ring specific suspension geometry, I wouldn't be too concern about ALA not working as well ;)

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

Since these cars will spend 99% of the time close to the speed limit, a spider version makes perfect sense.

I partially agree with you but the Spyder with that humongous rear wing? Seriously? Embarrassing. It barely "fits" the coupe.

Exactly. Perfect solution would have been some sort of retractable rear spoiler, but I guess the ALA-ducts can't be integrated... Smiley

Not really, why bother buying the Performante then if you are just going to use it to drive opentop at low speeds? The regular Huracan Spyder will do the exact same job, actually a better one since you are not parading around with a non-funtioning-hey-look-at-my-sportscar big rear wing on the back, unless thats the intention...

Smiley This is why ALA doesn't make sense on the Spyder. Everything else (new interior, engine/exhaust, etc.) does. I doubt that customers would mind not getting ALA (or some sort of ALA "light") in the Spyder.

True but Lamborghini buyers often want to impress... Smiley I just read in the US R8 forum that some Huracan owners switched to the R8 because they drew too much attention to themselves with the Huracan. Smiley Never heard of someone in Germany switching from a Huracan to a R8.

Cool! Do you have some sources? It would be nice to see how Lamborghine solved it. Generally, the "void" behind the windscreen of an open convertible car completely destroys the airflow over the car as designed for the coupe; the airflow is not able any more to adhere to the shape of the car and will let go, yielding big vortices. Best most manufacturers can do is to make sure that the airflow "breaks off" in a not-to-detrimental way.
I couldn't find any pictures for lambo's, but the mercedes in the figures below show the principle:

Spoiler works fine when the top is up and still works somewhat when it's down. Porsche Turbo Cabrio still has a wing, 918 and CGT have wings even with the tops removed.

Not sure it makes sense to compare the flow of air of a 4 seater convertible to a two seater, much shorter wheelbase exotic where you're literally sitting against the engine bay.

Why bother buying an expensive mechanical watch just to tell the time, especially a big flashy one like people seem to buy here? Why bother buying anything but the smallest most efficient engine in ANY car? Smiley

More importantly why bother buying a coupe car when you can buy a convertible one with all the ALA functionality with the top up, and have the option to open the top and maybe loose some of the effect? These cars spend the vast majority (99%) of their life parked or driving at slow speed.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

the Performante Spyder is definitely coming ..

I saw 2 at the factory this week, an orange and a green car. both looked stunning - staff pretended they weren't there.

there were also about 5 Aventador SVs on the line .. the last ones apparently.

Whatever it is - it looks spectacular! AMAZING!

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

I just realized that a widebody version of the Huracan could actually attract lots of new customers if they add the right amount of power to it as well.

Regarding power - I think the current car is already powerful enough. How much more you suffer? Smiley

You can never have enough power and a widebody version would probably gain weight. Since Lamborghini seems to plan to get rid of the V10, I'd say that a V8 Biturbo is very flexible regarding power outputs. It wouldn't be a problem for them to stick 750 hp into the Huracan and make McLaren suffer. Smiley

I was drooling over a 750 SV sypder yesterday and it was laughable wide - I came to the conclusion that this car can only be bought in USA or ME - surely nothing for EU roads - horrible.......

    How about the new 720S?

Yes, the Aventador is wide but it really doesn't pose a major problem as long as you don't visit some mointain villages in Italy or similar locations. Parking can be a challenge though but I think you have this issue with most super sportscars.

don't know the dims - but surely the 720 is narrower - sitting in both it's no comparison - the 720 is sensational in Terms of visibility

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

According to specs, the 720S seems to be wider...

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

Would be hard to believe a 720S is wider. Also, dimensions in specs may or may not include things like mirrors open/closed etc.

Re: Huracán Performante in "6.52 something" at the Ring?

true - the measurement is probably mirror to mirror - but surely the Aventador SV is wider

I was just comparing official specs...

Well, the aero vectoring corner speed improvement will be easy to test. You simply block it off and see what happens.
