This confirms what I had been told. So we should maybe (just maybe) expect one or two pipcs in Geneva. Just like the Cayenne. Hey Christian, you seem to be pretty sure about your info! Are you 100% sure. I trust you man! Regarding the other surprise, well, I guess you're talking about the 4 door sedan then. Looking forward to it.
Quote: CF said: The world premiere of the 997 will be in Paris. Could it be that there will be something else as well, let's just say that you will all be surprised!!!
We've been hearing that the 987 would come a little later than the 997. Might it be that the 987 does indeed go alongside with the 997 at Paris instead of being introduced later in the spring/early summer of 2005? Double whammy!
The 987 will be introduced AFTER the 997... they don't want to make the same mistake they did with the 986/996.
You have to bear in mind that it's quite challenging to introduce a new model... therefore, the last thing you want is to introduce 2 new models at once... especially when you only have 3 models !!!
For example you want to get a "free" press coverage twice and not only once... and you don't want journalists to compare the cars head to head... you also want to create some traffic into your showrooms twice ... On an industrial standpoint the ramp-up phase is always tricky and you don't want to multiply the risk to mess-up....
Finally Porsche don't really care if Boxster sales are in free fall .... profit contribution for this model is marginal .... The 911 is still (and will remain for a very long time) the highest contributor therefore it's the one that gets most of the "attention" from the company....
I guess the new Boxster (987) will be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005....
So there might be a chance that we will NOT see pics of the 997 in March?? I say this because March would be a little early if the car is not going to be premiered until September.
The surprise will be a 996 turbo S or 30th anniv. turbo whatever they call it. The guys in the exclusive works dept. were in Calif. recently got drunk and blabbed about it.
We 911 enthusiasts will recognize the 997 right way. To everyone else , the " spied " exterior changes are the same as comparing a " Boxster face " 2001 996 C2 Coupe to a " Turbo face " 2002 996 C4S - different front and rear fascias and exhaust tips , headlights and wider rear fenders and different wheels .

Geoff.
yeah, especially since they have the "old" 996 style side rearview mirrors and not the new design mirrors that have been on every 997 spyshot i've ever seen
Hey Geoff! Welcome to Rennteam! Are you ready to go off-roading again? I just got back from another trip to Big Bend. Look for photos on the Cayenne board.
RC, If your info is correct regarding Paris for the 997 debut; it changes the entire time-frame, that people close to the factory think is the schedule for release of the new product. The difference is a matter of 3-4 months, later than we thought. It means that we won't have the new car here until Oct. at the earliest,(USA). I hope that this isn't true ! Revvv
