Seriously - how they made this exhaust legal is beyond me - but the whole car is off-the Charts. Yes it's not having the latest tech on Transmission etc - but everything else I was blown away......
Did you not find the suspension a little soft? Perhaps they have tightened it up over the normal one?
Looks REALLY cool as well, I'd be seriously tempted by one of these if I was a bit older.
That new Vanquish Zagato looks brilliant as well!

well it's a GT cruiser - but handles miles better than the DBS and steering wheel has a Suspension button so you can adjust a little but the Point of the car is a different one - a true gentlemen sportscar. That V12 has now a epic Sound. A F12 is surely faster but I find the S cooler in almost all aspects - but of course only the DB11 has the latest Gadgets. once depreciated I will definitly consider this car.
that's exactly the thing with Astons...they are not the best in anything (except for sound maybe) but they ooze charater and aura.
when I think of my rapide I think of how gorgeous it looks and that its a very nice drive....I do not benchmark it against the competition...it doesn't have to win the stats

On the contrary. This is the problem with the car - this is supposed to be the more focussed driver's car - but it is not focussed . I am speaking of the normal Vanquish from personal experience but have not driven the S yet. I think they look and sound superb but the driving experience never matches up to everything else I could step in to instead. When I get time I will try and tee up a back to back test drive of the Vanquish S and the new DB11
I was testing a new silver Vanquish S in Munich 4 weeks ago. I was very disappointed by the exterior look. Car appears much lower priced then it is. Interior looks nice, but not state of the art. No doubt - the leather work is well done, but the cockpit and Multimedia-Display looks and behaves like on a 10 year old car.
Regarding sound - it sounds great no doubt. But apparently all the emotions with cars is just the sound, isn't it? The Vanquish S is fast, but even a TT-RS is fast for a fragement of the costs. The gear-box doesn't fit to a sporty car at all in my opition.
Summary - I was very disappointed with that car. I think previous Astons do have more "star appeal". I think Aston is reinvigorating its brands but it requires another iteration to get it done.

I know that you're talking about a conventional automatic here, but it is related to the fact that Aston did not have the deeper pockets to stay with transmission developments and produce or adapt a double-clutch transmission, a la Ferrari or PDK. In a way, the decade or so of single-clutch automated manuals has become a sort of "lost decade", where otherwise interesting cars (early R8s, Lambos till recently, Aston Vantage, etc.) are hobbled by the clunky single-clutch transmissions available then. This is especially true once these cars hit the used market... and partly explains the price premium on, for example, manual Ferraris of this period.

Aston single clutch system was obsolete even when it came out. That said it fit nicely the GT character of my V8 roadster so I ordered it then, and I still own it 9 years later. Astons are not for everyone. They are for ones who enjoy bespoke unique beautiful cars and hand made craftsmanship. Funny to see some appreciate it for watches but not for cars, I guess performance is everything for some.

Astons are special motor cars and while the Rapide is beautiful, one has found it a bit underwhelming. The problem is the lack of ability to let the car operate within its most favorable range in the States; therefore, it comes across as exceedingly boring. The exhaust is too quiet and the ride fails to smooth off at the speeds found on most U.S. roads as seldom one is able to run above 130 km/h. The Rapide became a short termer in the stable.
