I love the v1 but i've never used the escort so i cant comment on those..
the v1 has the best laser detection aswell as the arrows.. which are extremely useful aginst rear moving radar, with the escort it may keep you guessing if that radar is coming from ahead oe behind, where as the v1 will tell you ahead or behind or to the side but i soppose the side indicates when your going passed a cop car hidden in the median!!!!
since both manufacturers offer a 30day return offer...
you should really try both detectors and test them out, dont run them at the same time as they wont work....
then if you find a trap you can go passed them with the escort and then wil the v1 and see which one detects first. you can also use the escort for one week and the v1 for the other and see which is best for you, you can then send the other one back...... or you may decide to keep both and use the other as a back up detector if you send it in for repairs etc you always have a detector to fall back on...

V1's Arrows are HOT!
Agreed, MMD. I got a new V1 two weeks ago. I'm freaking AMAZED at the "power" of the arrows... I can't imagine going without them at this point.
My buddy has an Escort 8500 in his GT3, and it's a fine detector - but it does not have the arrows.

I have both-escort and the V1. V1- POSITIVES: 1) arrows, 2) able to detect multiple radars at once NEGATIVES: 1) the X band is extremely too sensitive (starts to give you the "cry wolf" feeling, 9maybe you can send it back to the factory and have them turn off the X band since most radars in the US are K, KA, Laser 2) the bands also don't light up, so at night you can't tell if it's X, K, KA, Laser, POP, 3) there's also no indication if its a POP hit
In all I like the escort better than my V1, I'll check into getting the X turned off, since thats my biggest complaint

Yeah, you made some very good points. I'd like to add that I think the V1 has hideous design and somewhat cheap looking too.
But still the arrows and the apparent extra range is hard to beat.
Maybe they'll fix a few of our complaints with the next generation?

Jacob - are you running in All Bogies (A), Logic (small "L") or Advanced Logic (big "L")? I'll agree, the X-band traffic can be insane around shopping malls, etc - but I set the mute "volume" really low and hit the mute button...
OTHO, be aware that the smarter members of the constabulary will set up a radar trap in an area of high X-band clutter, assuming that the regulars with detectors will ignore the warning... the bogey counter on the V1 really helps here.
It's a judgement call - my buddy with the 996 GT3 Mk.II has an 8500 and loves it. I think the point is - if you're driving a Porsche without a detector, you're dead meat. <g>

You DO know that you can enable and disable band detection at will with the V1, don't you? Hop onto Mike's website and look for the programming answers.
