    Audi S6 test in AMS

Audi S6 test in German AMS...
    0-100km/h: 5.5s
    0-160km/h:12.2s
    0-200km/h:19.3s
    1992kg(!)(weight distribution 59.5% front/40.5% rear)

Summery: excellent engine, very smooth for V10, awsome torque in low revs, very stable on the road with amazing traction(new 40/60 power distribution). Good brakes and very good handling for heavy car. Not so comfortable as they expected but, new front seats are very supportive.
Very good understatement alternative for M5 buyer and best car in the class on wet road...

Yes, Audi Quattro is something that shouldn't be missing from a high-end limousine. It also seems fast enough for most purposes, unless somebody really wants to go beating on 997's with the M5/E63...

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

    S6 is slower than 545i/550i.....

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

Actually it is not... At least automatic version, 550i achived 0-100km/h: 5.8s in last issue of AMS. And it is also slower around 1s till 200km/h but, 650i with automatic gearbox is faster:
    AMS test BMW 650i Automatic
    0-100km/h: 5.3s
    0-160km/h:11.8s
    0-200km/h:18.5s

I would think that in CANADA of all places you guys would appreciate AWD . The 550i has too much wheelspin for its own good.

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

I'll take a 550i over an S6 any day. The S6 weighs over 4400lbs! It not only weighs as much as a boat, it looks like one too. Although the awd feature is nice, and unique to audi in this class, for the money I'd prefer a E63 AMG.

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

Trip, Audi S6 base price is 79800Euro in Germany and Mercedes E63AMG is 95468Euro. With same options E63 is around 20000Euro more expensive then S6... Just for your information.
BTW, since you do not like Audi looks, what is your favorite power limo? M5? That's good one IMHO.
I really hope you will not say Mercedes-then you are in the same class as my father... Only he is 64years old!

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

i prefer the s6 over the bmw..imo its classier, then you have the growl and the torque of the v10..

In Vancouver where I live , not really the case. But in areas like Toronto or Montreal, 4WD for winter is essential.
However I'd take a good SUV anyday over Audi.

Yes, I was referring to Toronto. I'm not really partial to SUV's, as they can't compete with sedans in the performance category and consume more. If you would be using it for snow, then by all means, go ahead and buy a Cherokee, but for a normal car, I'd rank the S6 No. 1, as it will be much more drivable than the BW offerings, even in the rain. Once BMW releases the 550ix, that might present a cost-effective alternative to the S6.

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

I don't think BMW'S X drive can match Audi quattro..

In fact , X drive should be the worst 4WD system among German bros.

I said "alternative", not "replacement" . And it's not like I would trade Audi's stylish interior for BMW's cupboard in place of the center console .

If I could have just one it would be the M5 with the optional (US only) 6 speed manual, however if I could afford a proper sports car such as a 997tt, I would choose the E63 as my saloon. The M5 smg is terrible for anything but maximum attack and if I already had a car for that, the faster, more comfortable, and better looking E63 would be my choice.

Wait for the RS6. It will be faster than both the E63 and the M5 in the straight line and will have comfort and all-weather usability to boot. And it won't look like a piece of feces, like the M5 does .

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

The RS6 may be more powerful, but with over 4400lbs to propel, I doubt it will be much faster. My biggest gripes with the S6/RS6, is the engine being over the front wheels instead of pushed back as in its competitors. Its weight distribution is awefull. While the RS6 may sport more agressive body peices, I dislike the A6 shape to begin with, the rear roof line is way to long and the whole car looks very fat IMHO.

It's what we Europeans call "ELEGANCE" . The car, while not breaking any new ground, is simply beautiful, in a conventional way. The engine over the front wheels is part of the design of the car, which also allows for more room inside the cabin. No matter what most say, this is a luxo-sport limousine, not a sports car. Not to mention it looks better than the deformed 5er and has AWD. The RS6 will probably also weigh less than 4400 lbs, if rumors are correct.

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

Just one hint-if Audi decide to throw 5.2L V10 Bi-turbo in new RS6 then the same engine(already in R8 test mule!) will go to R8 also. As I wrote before R8 test mule with this engine hit 344km/h on second day of testing! Not bad for 610hp/750Nm.... Now, imagine this R8 against 997 turbo...

Ouch... Can you say outgunned? Also, looking at displacement, the Gallardo 5,2 liter engine could support over 800 horsepower at the same HP per liter as the Turbo's flat-6.

Even 550hp would be very tempting. When would you expect the stronger R8 version (i.e. not the 420-435hp base model) to be available at the dealer?

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

V10 version with 5.2L engine and around 520hp will be introduced on Frankfurt 2007 Auto show. First delivery end of 2007...

Hmm, quite late. However, the smaller engine version will be available for test drives much earlier, right? If the slower version is a compelling package one could probably order the 520hp version without much risk...

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

R8 with base 4.2L 420hp engine will be in shoowrooms in spring 2007. I already have delivery time for mine-May 2007!
I will invite you to test drive mine if you will not have any other solution...

    Thanks for the kind offer

BTW: I am an Audi fan already. Their cars are the best packages available in their respective segment. Currently, I own an A8 W12 (short wheel-base). It is an excellent car! Slightly slower than a S600 or S65 in the straight line, but much safer and more refined (primarily due to 4WD) and (for me) much better looking (interior and exterior). Also, handling, steering, brakes are signifcantly better than in case of the S600/S65. Given my recent experiences with Audi I would be a somehow "natural" customer for the R8, I guess

Re: Audi S6 test in AMS

A8 W12 is excellent car! BTW, did you see new pics that I posted on R8 news thread?

Thanks! Do you mean the front shots? Very nice design Also, the R8 video posted above provides a good feeling for the car's beautiful looks.
