997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

Auto Bild comparison test: 997 Turbo, Vette Z06, F430F1 and Gallardo...

    997 Turbo(manual)
    0-100km/h: 3,7s
    0-200km/h:12,1s
    80-120km/h: 5,3s(6th)
Track time Oschersleben: 1:42.74min(Michelin normal tires)

    Vette Z06
    0-100km/h: 4.3s
    0-200km/h:12.6s
    80-120km/h:11.3s(6th)
    Oschersleben: 1:42.30min(Goodyear's)

    Ferrari F430F1
    0-100km/h: 4.0s
    0-200km/h:12.5s
    80-120km/h: 7.5s(6th)
    Oschersleben: 1:41.89min(Pirelli Corsa'a)

    Lamborghini Gallardo
    0-100km/h: 4.0s
    0-200km/h:13.1s
    80-120km/h:10.8s(6th)
    Oschersleben: 1:41.52min(Pirelli Corsa's)

BTW, I had a chance to drive 997 Turbo TIP and it is fast but, somehow numb in feeling to me... Although, I understand fully now why is somebody going for TIP version.
997 Turbo is excellent car in both versions IMHO...

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

    Nice!
    Thanks for the test, Kreso!

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

The Turbo beats the competition in acceleration, no surprise here, but on a roll-on race (tipical street race o highway encounter), it absoultely crushes them!!

Also looking at the Oscherleben times, the Turbo with its AWD, PTM, PSM, etc, etc will outhandle them on the street/track when driven by the ordinary sportscar owner. I.e. in the real world the TT will not only out accelerate them from a roll on but is easier to go faster in it around the corners for the ordinary driver.
Wonder what the times would be with all 4 of them using the Cups/Corsas

Not bad for a car with rear seats and allyear driveability and everyday practicality Makes the others look a bit silly

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

Carlos, I agree with you! But, this is second time that some reviewer is calling 997 Turbo(with PSM off) oversteer friendly...
With optional Cup's or Corsa's and LSD(test 997 Turbo was without LSD) Turbo is around 2s faster on Oschersleben...

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

    80-120 in 6th is 5.3sec? Is that a misprint?

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

    NO, it is NOT!
    BTW, AMS test 80-120km/h: 5.5s(6th)

When you consider that most normal cars can't do this at full throttle in optimal gear, I don't see what the problem is. The gear goes up to 200 mph!

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

5.3 in 6th gear would tend to squash the argument concerning significant turbo lag

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

    This is a test!

Thanks Kreso, tell us more of your drive!!

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

    Dario,
TIP is fast but, numb in feeling as I already wrote... Car was Basalt black with Terrakotta leather, no pics since owner told me so. But, any way big thanks to him because he gave ma a chance to drive his car with only 200km on clock. Stability is awsome, brakes(standard) excellent as well. I spoke over the phone with Mumbasic(also member here and my friend) just after that short(around 50km) drive and there are few things that I do not like about TIP but, for those people that will drive Turbo mainly in heavy traffic or downtown TIP is better choice I must admit. On the other hand if you like to completely control the car and its performance(!!) there is IMHO only one way to go-manual with optional LSD.
Engine sound was a huge suprise to me-I like it! It is not in the same league as PSE on 997S or F430(specially!) but, I kind of like understatement sound of new Turbo...
Next week I will have a chance to drive manual with LSD.
BTW, I did push the car till 200km/h and it was a nice feeling...

I'm guessing overboost was activated for this top gear passing test? This is where overboost would really shows it's teeth.

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

    Alan,
Even TIP version is simply awsome in overtake situation!
New engine is really good at torque... Now, after driving the car my feeling is that 480hp is just fine.

What did you not like about the Tip? Delayed down-shifts, I guess?

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

    Thanks!

can't wait your test of next week..

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

    whats the meaning of MKSGR????

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

Those are the best times I've see for the Turbo. Imagine the lap times if the turbo had LSD and cup tires!!

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

BTW, in next issue of Sport Auto we will have comparison between CLK63AMG and 997 Turbo TIP! Yes, this will be(maybe) first TIP version test...

How do you figure? The turbo's advantage is AWD and massive torque which explains its explosive off-the-line acceleration, and it maintains that lead up to 200kph.

What you need to look at is the 100-200kph time. There you'll notice the turbo will be only on par with the rest or possibly be slower.

But, definitely no "crushing" will be done by the turbo.

Re: 997 Turbo Auto Bild comparison test

...I thought with AWD is would have the fastest lap time; esp since it accelerates harder...

The new AWD can transfer up to 100% of the torque on either wheel pair, so the car will ehave as a RWD car in the straight line. I agree that it ian't much faster than the rest, but it beats the 430 and the Gallardo and is on par with the C6Z (it would be nice to have the 0-250 km/h times).

Tip is as fast as manual in manual mode now. There are no delayed down-shifts. In manual mode.

    Really

Instant down-shifts like in case of a DSG/F1 gear box?

That is: you still "feel" a substantial delay. However, if measured in fractions of a second the delay is not any longer than in case of a professional down-shift in a manual car.

    Right
