This is clearly excellent news..... But it doesn't mean it won't be the case for Cayenne II.
You're absolutely right, there is a huge demand for diesel cars on this side of the ocean....
The USA is the most important market for Porsche. If the US doesn't want a Diesel, Porsche doesn't build one. If the US doesn't want a Grand Tourer but a 4-door sedan, Porsche builds one. If the US market wants more power, Porsche...well, they're not so far yet.
I think that Porsche would build a Porsche Diesel if they'd see a market for such a car. Maybe potential Diesel buyers never thought of buying a Porsche and for Americans, a Diesel car is even worse than Bill Clinton playing his saxophone.
I'm curious to see the Cayenne product line in about 3-4 years. And if fuel prices go up rocket high, even Americans might want to reconsider.
BTW: I owned only once a Diesel, a Isuzu Trooper Turbo Diesel which I used in Eastern Europe (bad fuel, bad streets
). I don't like Diesel cars and I'd never buy one. But a testdrive in the Touareg V10 Diesel impressed me a lot, the engine is soooooo powerful.
