    Sunroof Standard on all US GT-3 ' s

    Usually when selling a product ; more is better. But when selling Porsche cars; as I do; sometimes in certain models; less is better. This is obviously the case with the new GT-3
    and future GT-3 RS. The enthusiast's buying these cars ; do not desire a hole in the roof ; even for free ! Porsche didn't crash test the non-sunroof version, and as a result
    can't sell it here. Come to think of it; there is no " Sunroof Delete" option on any 997 model, in the US market.
    The irony is that the non-sunroof model is probably safer
    in all circumstances. I guess we will just to live with this open-air street, race car.....

    Big thread about this on Rennlist. Looks like both RS and GT3 get the roof in N. America (with no option to delete)

    "A sunroof delete option for the 997 Coupe series will not be available for the life span of the vehicle. Federal occupant crash regulations for sunroof versus non-sunroof vehicles and the resultant engineering expense to meet those regulations make this option financially non-viable, for the small number of vehicles configured.
    Not alot of people opted for Option 652- Sunroof Delete in the prior model (996)

    If a carmaker certifies crashworthiness with a particular structural configuration (ie. with sunroof), it must repeat all tests whenever that configuration is altered (ie. no sunroof).

    Where will that leave the 997 GT3RS configuration in America,
    with or without a sunroof??

    Sunroof also. If they're not going to crash-test the higher-volume GT3, they won't for the low-volume RS...

    Only way to get a 997-based road car without sunroof is to buy a Cabriolet

    i would think DOT would make porsche crash test an RS since it has a different body then the GT3. PCNA will crash test an RS without the sunroof. This will help justify the price difference and the people who really don't want a sunroof will have to pay up for the RS.

    You can't get a C4 or C4s widebody coupe w/o a sunroof....

    I am not a DOT expert, but I thought they would have to crash test at least one GT3 and RS since the ride height is different than the base c2 and widebody versions. The issue was more that they did not want to crash test 2 GT3's, with and without sunroof. I think they are going to have to crash test a least one RS, so I am guessing/hoping it will be without a sunroof.

    If Porsche offered the GT3 and GT3RS only without a sunroof, I suspect you'd see the sunroof delete option become more popular on the other 997's.

    I had been holding out for a 997S with sunroof delete and the -20 mm sport suspension. Now it seems that will never come to NA, which makes me feel much better about getting my 997S without both.

    guys ....buy from PAG a 997C2 with no option and do the Crash test yourself .

    I think it's around 20kg and it's right at the top of the car, so it raises center of gravity significantly. Also, it decreases headroom and introduces the possibility of leaks, rattles and motor/mechanism failure...
