    Adaptive sports seats


    'The adaptive sport seat option combines excellent comfort with a driver memory function. The comprehensive range of power adjustment controls include fore/aft position, height, backrest angle, and lumbar support. The side bolsters on the backrest are pneumatically adjustable for the perfect fit. This exceptional variability ensures generous comfort on long-distance journeys as well as precision support when cornering. The memory function includes both exterior mirrors as well as all seat settings except for the side bolsters.'

    +++ Dothe side bolsters on the adaptive sports seats provide additional lateral support compared to standard sports seats? How effective is the lateral support of the adjustable side bolsters during hard (track) cornering?

    I drove both versions. Standard ruffled seats and adaptive sport seats and boy let me be the first to tell you that there was a huge difference between the two. The adaptive seats hug you quite well. Keeps you firmly in place as you go around the corners hard. I'd definitely recommend it over the standard seats.

    Yes, if you choose to you can adjust the adaptive sport seat bolsters in tighter than the sport seats..... Or you can let out the air and the bolsters will open further than the sport seats. The seats are pretty suportive. Not as effective on a track as say the sport seats in a Challenge Stradale or 430 but they're decent.

    Thanks to you all for the info; it is very helpful. The ASS seems like a must-have option for dual-purpose track and long-distance autobahn cars. Here are the Rennteam comments:

    'The new adaptive seat really is a class of its own, you feel comfortable at once and lateral support is more than enough. Racing shells are not necessary any more if you are looking for a well-balanced compromise between comfort and sportiness but even if comfort isn't on your priority list, the adaptive sport seats are just great. And if you want to drive a minute or two on the track too, the side grip of the sport seat can be adjusted by the push of two buttons.'

    I drove several 997TTs in Austria, all had adaptive sport seats. They were terrific, and I will certainly order them on my car. I have standard sport seats on my Carrera S, and the adaptive are more comfortable and have more options.

    Plus the adaptive sport seats have adjustable lumbar which make a huge difference for some people.

    Just because most rennteamers like the adaptive sports seats doesn't mean you will find them comfortable for your body and driving style. I personally found them uncomfortable because the sides dug into my upper back. So I'd strongly recommend that you try them out yourself before ordering them.

    The advantage of the adaptive seats is...they are adaptive. The normal seats suck, REALLY suck (unless you weight a ton and you can't fit into the sport seats), side-grip is pretty much horrible.

    I've gone for the sports seats (not the adaptive ones) for two reasons: 1. I started to "play around" with them during driving and it was somehow distracting and 2. the adaptive sport seats add around 20 kg or so weight.
    And finally, my 997 Turbo budget has already been "stretched" to the limit, I had to get the sport seats instead to be able to get all the options I wanted.

    Opt for the manual and you will save enough to get the adaptive seats...
