    Re: G63 this time round

    Conny997:

It's unbelievable how this thing is doing.

In the Munich AMG Center they sell the G like hot bread. After quite a time of searching for a G63 with all the goodies I want to see on it, I found a very suitable G63 in Designo Magno-Platin. (Pic)

    IMG_9921.JPG

The car has everything I would have liked to have in my own order if I had executed one.
When I saw the car, it was just 2 days in the showroom and I was sure I wanted to buy exactly this car because I reluctantly place own orders.

The next day I went with my wife to the dealer, since she herself is a big G-fan and of course she wanted to see the G63 before buying it.. Well, the end of the short story is foreseeable: my dream car had already been sold. laughlaughlaugh

Similar vehicles will not be available in the next few weeks. yes
Thats bad luck I would say...

I really feel bad for you, this one looks perfect indeed. Smiley

Can't your local Mercedes dealer, especially if he is a "Niederlassung" (factory dealer), get a similar car from a different "Niederlassung" in Germany?

I dunno if it has to be new, but here´s a 2012 model with 33K on the clock, located in Denmark.
It´s appr 110,000 € (no taxes) and it seems to be in that Designo Specialo Greyo coloro Smiley

Conny997 needs a new one, this is going to be a business car (I think). There are tons of used G63 available in Germany, no need to go to Denmark. Smiley

OK, well - I just called Optimus Prime, and his wife (he married a wonderful Maersk container last year) is pregnant.
I´m told it could be twins, so perhaps they are willing to sell off one of them SmileySmiley

    Re: G63 this time round

Can't imagine wanting to preserve the crap feel of the old G. It's not like an old sports car. It's literally just a heavy, bad handling truck. Never heard anyone say they want to drive an old S class vs a new S class because of the crappy dynamics...

    Re: G63 this time round

People complained and were worried when Porsche said they are changing the platform of the 911 form the 993 to the 996 .

We all know how it went . 99% of the people liked the handling of the 996 much more then the 993.

Thats true. I even don't really like to buy a demonstration car maybe 6 months old with 1.000-3.000 km on the odo. I've done this 2 times and wasn't happy. But anyway many thanks to Dr.Phil and Christian for your help.Smiley

but wider......10 cm is A LOT - but actually that is one of the reason I want a G-klass because it fits nicely in parking spots whereas some others are just to wide and cause lots of pain to park......

I wonder why they made it wider. Smiley Smiley 10 cm are huge and I always liked the G class because it didn't have that feel of a gigantic SUV but still provided a lot of interior room for passengers and luggage.

It surely wasn't a sportscar but it handled nicely for such a car and it was actually the "character" of it.

If I'd want a super sporty SUV, I would choose a Cayenne GTS, Turbo or Turbo S but the G63 always had that special attraction of a...how to put it...dinosaur. Sometimes improving a product can also mean that you destroy it's character and appeal. Smiley

it never intended or claimed to be a "handling" car - but no surprise from whom those comments come

    Re: G63 this time round

    BjoernB:

Since when does a car have to claim to have decent handling? It should be standard and expected in 2017. Most G class cars are sold as status symbols and design, and the appeal has nothing to do with their driving characteristics. All the G class has to do is look similar and be very expensive. The old characteristics can easily be replaced with modern ones that are much improved.

    Re: G63 this time round

For me, the G63 AMG is no status symbol but a classic. I would get one instantly if I could afford it (as a fourth or fifth car). I still view the Cayenne Turbo S as the perfect family SUV because it basically offers everything you need. Still, the G63 is and will be always on my radar.

i actually enjoy how bad the current one handles....it is a major part of its charms. I could find perfection in any golf or polo.

the new one will be a much improved car just with retro looks....not the real thing imo

what makes some go for a g class is what makes others go for a singer Porsche.

    Re: G63 this time round

It also needs to cover the purpose. If I look for a family SUV I probably look for perfection. If it is a emotional car and probably the 3rd, 4th or 5th car in your stable it is a different story.

Dealer called me yesterday and told me that we are seeing the new car on a car show in May/June? Don't know what is running in that time frame - my guess was Geneva, but apparently it will be somewhere else.

In my opinion, there is no better family SUV than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo or Turbo S. Stylish, powerful, sporty, roomy, good quality, it offers everything you want. Like your wife however, my wife isn't really in love with the Cayenne but the reason for it is quite weird: She thinks it is a SUV for old people. Smiley Smiley Smiley Even the S Diesel my wife drives right now is an amazing SUV. I love driving it in winter time and/or with the kids in the car but I miss the power of the Turbo of course. I also miss the sporty chassis of my former 958.1 GTS.

My wife hates the G class because she thinks it looks like a Russian SUV (her words), she maybe even has a point in a weird way but I understand what she really means. The Macan is more stylish and women like stylish, so I guess the next Cayenne generation will probably change my wife's opinion about the Cayenne. Hopefully.

If the G class gets improved, this may actually take away it's charm of some sort of SUV dinosaur. Perfection isn't always a good thing, especially for such a (classic) car.

    Re: G63 this time round

Cayenne - I love the ride, but the trunk space is just very much too small. You can't stand your suitecases upgright, the door wouldn't close anymore.

Women and SUVs:  My wife loves that G and she wants one. She is not a fan of the Cayenne as she says it looks like a Hyundai (well.. her taste). The Macan and all other SUVs in that size (X3, Q5,...) she calls a "cockroach" . BUT - she likes the Range Rover (the big one), the GLS and well - the Volvo smiley

It depends how you load the luggage and of course it depends on how big your suitcases are. We are using soft spinners from Samsonite and they aren't small. With good planning, you can actually store quite a lot in the Cayenne. but of course it is no Grand Cherokee. Smiley

Totally different tastes, my wife hates the Range Rover and basically any Mercedes on this planet ("Mercedes are for old people..." Smiley). Volvo? Not really either, a neighbor has the new XC90 hybrid (I assume, they have that "E" in the license plate) and while I love the design, she doesn't. Women... Smiley Smiley

G class is very polarizing car. Most girls I know adore G class, but there are few who hate that car 100%. There is no middle, either you love it or you hate it.

    I can confirm it. Smiley

Saw one in Austria (ski resort) last weekend and one of my wife's girlfriends said that this would be "her" car if she could afford it. My wife asked her how she can like such a "tractor".  Smiley Smiley I love the G63 but I think you need to have some sort of emotional connection to the car to love it. Also, you need to know a bit about the tech and what makes it special. Not easy, I know.

    Re: G63 this time round

cayenne turbo or turbo s IS the best suv out there. fantastic on road and actually very good offroad.

I had the first gen turbo and loved it. not pretty but ok. the current one is downright ugly and I agree it looks like a kia or something like that.

surely the G has an image....Russian, middle eastern. but I think that its real image even defied this association.

and I feel that even those that think its a useless dinosaur still appreciate its coolness.

its a relic that managed to survive....

So far noone among us has driven the new G-class, I assume. There si the possibility to imrpve the handling without removing its special charme. Let's wait and see.

The Singer actually is an improved and updated version of the original, also not carrying over the handling quirks ofan F- or G-series 911. Smiley
