G63 this time round

there it goes....time for a new SUV and G63 its going to be this time round.

Going for white (what else Smiley ) with red/black designo interior.

Am huting new 2016 in-stock cars as there seem to be plenty around to be grabbed instead of going for a 5-6 month waiing period.

letting the x6m go....it has proven to be a solid car over the past 5 years....however, has only 10k on the clock. but been absolutely trouble free.

Finally . and obviously white, I know you've always wanted to get it.

Are you a bit worried that MB is supposedly coming out with a new G sometime soon? or do you plan on keeping this one regardless?

i believe its a timeless car. so even if merc come out with a new one, it will de a different car and not a direct successor.

just like the sls imo is timeless in the sense that a newer model does not directly render the previous on obsolete.

i guess another example would be the countach and many other cars. they have become so iconic that they are not affected by successive models.

Great choice! Some.people say they handle.better with than stock with the ORC 40mm lift kit and 36inch BFG KO' s.

I really envy you, what a wonderful choice! Saw a white one with black wheels and dark tinted windows here in Miami, it looked amazing. Even my wife kind of liked it.

Can't wait to see the car, congratulations on your wise choice. Smiley

I'm still waiting for the next-gen. As much as I've always wanted one, there is a high possibility the next-gen will retain its presence and design language, and be a huge step up in efficiency and interior.

A hybrid or full-electric powertrain is ideal for such a car, and I hope one shows up.

Everything looks great except for that aftermarket display above the console. (Sorry, intouch1, I just hate that particular current Mercedes feature.) Maybe the Mercedes designers got confused when someone mentioned the benefits of LSD?

i agree.....one of the worst features merc ever did but imo opinion not as bad in the cubic g interior as in the rounded interiors of other mercs....

I find that it's position high up on the dash does make it easier to read than the integrated screens mounted lower down in the centre console, so that compensates for the "add-on" look.

Oh Jesus, we are going a different way.

I have just decided that the new Cayenne Turbo S WILL replace my G. I pushed that one to 2017 instead of 2016.

I had enough of the jello ride and non-existent steering feel plus the super stiff steering wheel. I could do 30 degree steering turns on the highway and the car would track straight, but when it comes down to turns at slow speed, I swear it takes 100kg just to turn the damn wheel 10 degree.

Another urban victim of the G series.. Smiley the G steering system is set up for off road slow speed stuff. Mercedes in their infinite wisdom softened the spring rates and shocks to plush up the ride for luxury car buyers. That combined with soft riding oem spec tires spec creates lousy dynamics. Seriously if you put on a orc eibach suspension kit and switch to tires with stiffer sidewalls the handling sharpens up dramatically. It will feel like a completely.different vehicle. You would not regret it.

what kind of tires would you recommend.

the 2016 model apparently has a better suspension setup and much improved ESP intervention than previous years.

furthermore it has a normal and sport setting for the suspension i understand which too was unavailable before.

BF Goodrich all terrain K02's are the current state of the art on/off road tire. Also quiet but with tremendous grip in loose dirt, rocks and sand but still street friendly. If you do go off road much you might think about a ORC 2nd gas tank and their skidplates that protect some components that the factory ones don't. ORC is a German company and all products are top quality.
