    "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

    0-200 km/h was 12.5 seconds

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

    60-100 km/h = 2.1 sec
    80-120 km/h = 2.5 sec

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

weight of the tested car = 1600 kg

    weight distribution front/rear = 37.5/62.5

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

    1600 kg!!!???

I forgot how heavy the Turbo is...

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

I forgot is 12.5 better or worse than expected?

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

.3 seconds better than factory claims yet still slower than a ZO6. I want to see more tests before I admit the Z06 is faster.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

0.3 secs faster than the non SC version of the manual from Porsche... That should put the tip version with SC way under 12...

Autozeitung has stopped the Z06 at 13 sec. flat from 0-200 kph. The Gallardo SE tested for comparison did a 13.4 sec time. Considering this, I think 12.5 sec for the 997 Turbo is pretty good. The driver was Kurt Thiim, a well known swedish race driver and they tested both cars on the track (Lausitz Ring).

Btw.: we already discussed the Autozeitung results in an earlier thread which started a few days ago. And it isn't 100% if Sport Chrono was installed and/or used.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

Auto Zeitung used Sport Chrono ON during 997 Turbo measurements...
But, achived times are good... Here is the problem:

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

You mean test in Sport Auto 6/2006? Yes, times achived by Sport Auto for SL55AMG are:
    0-100km/h: 4.7s
    0-160km/h:10.3s
    0-200km/h:15.6s

but, what about times achived for Gallardo Spyder?! It was THE SAME CAR that also Auto Zeitung tested!
Sport Auto 6/2006 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder
    0-100km/h: 4.4s
    0-160km/h: 9.6s
    0-200km/h:15.5s

Also a lot slower then Auto Zeitung data! Recently all cars tested by Auto Zeitung are lot faster then same ones tested by Sport Auto or AMS.
So, to belive in Auto Zeitung times or not? I do not know honestly... BTW, since Gallardo was absolutely the same car what about weight difference? Auto Zeitung weight is 1740kg but, Sport Auto is 1748kg! Small difference I know but, still it is there...

Do we know if SL55 was tested in manual mode, using paddle shifters...or just auto mode? Could the $15K 030 PerfPackage option w/LSD, upgraded tires/wheels and any software tweaks/more "robust" engines for PP cars also be a variable btwn the magazine tests?

Similarly, for 997TT Tip/SC, need to know whether accel done in manual mode vs auto....

Also, haven't seen a standardized, real-world-AB-relevant way to compare elasticity from 100-200kph+ btwn trad manuals and Tips in auto vs manual mode......

I have a problem with the SL55 results, as in they are as fast or even faster than the SL65, which has 100 more horsepower. I think Mercedes has pulled the SLR engine in SL55 stunt. AGAIN.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

Andrej, read all posts... Problem is IMO not in SL55AMG but, in Auto Zeitung...

Yeah, I read the post. Could it be a difference in measuring? Does the Auto Zeitung crew use dedicated equipment or are the measurements GPS based, such as with Motor Trend?
However, MB did pull a stunt like that before (remember the 32-second 0-300 km/h time for the SL55?), so it always pays to also look at this possibility.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

Yes; I know about SL55AMG Uberleistung version... But, IMO problem is in recent(last 12 months) Auto Zeitung test results. Almost all cars(specially powerfull ones!) are faster then when tested by AMS or Sport Auto. That is interesting, isn't it? Small war between German car mags? Maybe...

If this is true than the new turbo is significantly faster than the ZO6. That makes me very happy indeed!

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

AMS Tested Gallardo 2004 500 hp version with E-gear weight 1647 kg
    0-100 4.2
    0-160 9
    0-200 13.8

Another mag i dont remeber (i am at summer house now the mags are at normal house)
    compared 996TTS Gallardo F430
All manuel except F430 is F1
    Gallardo 0-100 4.2, 0-200 13.3

The measurements of 15.4 sec for gallardo is nothnig more than Piece of Sh..

The car has much much potential than these tests. Sport mod with ESP off is very different than normal mod

The best tests is am with is AMS test or the test 996TTS ,Gallardo,F430 test

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

Put in perspective that these are straight acceleration specs, which should be the strongest point of all the car mentionned, and the 997TT still holds its own in manual, with AWD and less HP... what a car.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

All of these cars are so different, have different price points and different capabilities.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

Anyone have the times Autozeitung acheived for the f430? I thought I ead somewhere that they were faster than the Turbo. If this is the case than I don't really trust Autozeitung as a Z06 would absolutely demolish the 430 in any race.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

All this talk about ultimate acceleration. Lets not forget the 997 only needs an ECU flash to make it even faster. There's no reason to believe that someone will not come out quickly with a program to extend the overboost beyond 10 seconds, which would lead to a much higher peak hp and acceleration beyond 100 mph

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

That is true, but any of these cars can be modified. Some Z06 owners have done simple mods like headers and are making well over 500 rwhp. Having said that, I know which car I would rather have and an ECU flash woud be one of the first mods. My point is that once you start comparing modified cars, all bets are off.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

I just read on the ferrari board that Autozeitung misprinted the 0-200 kph time for the f430 they first printed 12.2 but actually it was 13.2. The turbo is .7 seconds faster to 200, impressive.

Yes, that has been stated before on these boards. I wouldn't flash the 997TT ECU though. Wait until the tuners or Porsche itself come out with a powerkit. Also, if you are planning on power mods, the PDK will probably be out of zhe question, when it comes out.

Re: "Autozeitung" drove 997tt manual ...

I didn't know that had been discused. What is the difference between a tuner powerkit and an ecu flash? I am assuming the powerkit would include ecu, exhaust, air filter etc and a flsh would be simply the ecu programing. I am thinking exhaust will be a crucial upgrade because of the lack of sound reported by most journalists. If the stock exhaust is so restrictive, it is possible that big gains could be made with an aftermarket system. This would be ideal as it would do nothing to harm reliability. What kind of gains do you think are realistic. How much power was gained by upgrading the 996tt exhaust?

Simply tuning the ECU would be a bad idea because of the already extremely high temperatures. The powerkit will, in all probability, include bigger turbochargers. The exhaust would, in conjunction with increased boost, provide some gains. The exhaust on the 996TT provided between 30 to 40 horsepower, depending on the brand, when coupled with the ECU (the cars could run at over 500 horsepower in conjunction with exhaust and chip). Just installing a different exhaust probably wouldn't net much, it could even sap horsepower if not done properly. If you're getting one of the first 997TT, wait a year and you will have a lot more choices available to you.

I was talking to the Tampa FL Porsche dealer and they have a Motorsports division there for aftermarkert goodies. Their Revo technik rep stopped by and said they will be releasing a software based "Stage 1" for the 997TT and they said the rep told them 550hp with just the software upgrade.

Expect several tuners to have the same..
