I always thought that producing limited edition models is a mistake, manufacturers should run numbers on how many cars could be sold and then create a production plan. Of course this doesn't mean that everyone could get one of these cars because you cannot sell 5000 cars at a price of 1 Mio. each but if they think they can sell 1000, let them produce 1000. Unfortunately many of these high priced cars have become collector's items and speculation objects, so it is highly possible that Porsche or Ferrari wouldn't even sell that many 918 or LaFerrari type cars at their prices if these cars weren't limited. Collectors and speculators would probably stay away from them, just a wild guess though.

This is so true.
Unfortunately though.

I remember back in few years when Porsche announced 918cars to be produced for 918, most of the people are questioning how are they going to sell that many cars....... now come to think of it now, they should have doubled the numbers by 1836cars, as its not enough to flood the world market. and the value of the car for resale will still be rock solid high.....
many of us questioning why these car markers are making these limited production for limited small number, for those who got their hands on these limited numbers certainly doesn't want the numbers to be increase. so what would car manufacture do...... if all old customers has to have one, what would the new customers get if they are all limited..... if LaFearrari was sold to this 80 years old guy, certainly they would want the other loyal "new" customers to have one too with La Fearrari Spyder.... Don't think this guy have a case unless there was an agreement with them.
koko:Ferrari North America are known for being A holes. I'm sure he pissed off someone there.
I rather think that sending that cheque to Italy, instead of a nice letter from a collector, may have pissed off the Italians directly.

This guy is lucky that at least his check has not been deposited by Ferarri. I am suing them for letting their official dealer taking my deposit for a regular 488, keeping it for 9 months and then NOT deliverying the car and delaying the returning of the deposit.
I'll be happy to pay the upgrade from a standard Huracan to Supeleggera with the money I'll get from the lawsuit :)

Sad to hear that but I wish you good luck and that Huracan Superleggera sounds like a good plan.
